I found this post on Instagram yesterday and wanted to share this news from The Futures League, a prominent summer collegiate baseball league based in New England:
The Futures League has been a part of my baseball experience in New England for decades. I have written about, attended games, and been a huge fan of players, coaches, and teams in the Futures League and will continue to do so. This summer collegiate baseball league recruits top local and national baseball players (with college eligibility) every season. Futures League fans are treated to some of the best baseball all summer in great stadiums in historic New England baseball towns like New Britain, Lowell, Worcester, and Norwich. The Futures League is now beginning a national search to fill some rather large baseball cleats, I mean shoes in the commissioner role. Great job done and high fives to outgoing Commissioner Joe Paolucci, who gets top marks from me as the league’s top man for the past several seasons. From the league’s official press release on their website, here are a few of Joe’s accomplishments as commissioner:
“Paolucci succeeded founding commissioner Chris Hall in 2019. During his tenure, the league welcomed four former affiliated and independent professional franchises, most recently the Lowell Spinners ahead of the 2026 season.
He also guided the Futures League through its “Improbable Season” in 2020, when it was the only summer collegiate league in New England to play amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The league welcomed fans to its ballparks that summer, and eight players from the 2020 season have since reached Major League Baseball.
The league expanded its reach through streaming on BlueFrame Technology/Hudl TV and television coverage on New England Sports Network (NESN). In 2026, the league introduced Trackman technology at every Futures League ballpark, giving players, college coaches and MLB scouts access to detailed performance data.“
