Six hours of flight time will give the average person time to relax, watch a movie, take a nap, and recharge their busy life’s battery. For the baseball fan, like me, I have all the time in the world to relax, watch a movie, take a nap, and recharge after the 2026 Major League Baseball season is officially over for me. In other words, when the Boston Red Sox are no longer playing, I can relax. For now, it is go time, focus time on ideas and theories on how the Boston Red Sox will make it to and win the 2026 Major League Baseball World Series trophy. And here is what I came up with on the flights to Dallas, Texas then Burbank, California…

Okay, let’s break down the playoffs and matchups and how the Boston Red Sox will make it into the World Series to begin with. Before I get into my Red Sox theories, I will give my predictions for who will win and who will go home.

American League (AL) Wildcard 1 – Boston Red Sox over NY Yankees
AL Wildcard 2 – Chicago White Sox over Houston
National League (NL) Wildcard 1 – Chicago Cubs over San Diego
NL Wildcard 2 – Atlanta Braves over Philadelphia Phillies
AL Divisional 1 – Boston over Tampa Bay Rays
AL Divisional 2 – Chicago (White Sox) over Cleveland Guardians
NL Divisional 1 – Milwaukee Brewers over Chicago (Cubs)
NL Divisional 2 – Atlanta Braves over Los Angeles Dodgers
AL Pennant – Boston over Chicago White Sox
NL Pennant – Atlanta over Milwaukee
2026 World Series – Boston over Atlanta

Let’s start with the NY Yankee series. Here is where Boston is superior to NY, in my opinion. Relief pitching, lineup construction, come from behind ability, reserve players are legit stars, the catching position, playoff tested players on roster, world series experienced players on roster, Chad Tracy’s cool managerial style, Left Handed Pitching galore, outfield defense, and one of the most important factors – no one thinks they have a chance and they play like they are going home tomorrow every single game! What do the Yankees have over the Sox? Home field advantage with obnoxious yet effective screaming Yankees baseball fans, the right field fence, Ben Rice, speed, David Bednar, excellent starting pitching, Cody Bellinger’s arm in the outfield, bloop hitters up and down the lineup. And if you stack the Boston Red Sox lineup up against the NY Yankee lineup, including the DH spot, Boston players outrank Yankee players 6 – 3. Advantage, Boston Red Sox. And how sweet it will be!!!

If and when the Red Sox make it past the Yankees, they will face the top team in the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays. Here is what the Rays have over the Sox. Junior Caminero is as scary a hitter as I have seen since David Ortiz, home field advantage with that ridiculous dome, Kevin Cash is manager of the year every year, the Rays play error free baseball 9/10 games, Yandy Diaz is this generation’s Ichiro – grossly underrated as a ball player, the Rays excel at small ball, the Rays have excellent starting pitching, Brian Baker is a monster coming out to face batters. The Rays are really, really good and the Red Sox will have to play like the Rays – small ball, bunting, stealing bases, solid relief outings, error free baseball – in order to win. Very slight edge goes to the Sox in a close series.

If and when the Red Sox make it past the Rays, they will face the Chicago White Sox. No big deal, right? Very wrong. Here is what the White Sox will have going for them. Youth up and down their lineup, a rising star and shining personality in Munetaka Murakami, their home games at Guaranteed Rate Field will be loud to the 50th degree, their team hits a ton of home runs, their team plays with a ton of emotion and energy, they are way ahead of organization’s goals with an awesome crop of young players, they have Andrew Benintendi who knows how to win championships. What the White Sox lack is experience in pressure cookers like Fenway Park in October. Fenway, like Yankee Stadium, can humble even the biggest stars in Major League Baseball. Red Sox win this one handily to head back to the Fall Classic.

If and when the Red Sox make it past the White Sox, they will face the Atlanta Braves in the 2026 World Series. What don’t the Braves have to offer? Let’s start with what they have. Chris Sale is a first ballot HOF if he retires at the end of the year – he has been incredible, Ronald Acuna, Jr. maybe the best player in baseball when healthy, Matt Olsen just hits and hits and hits every season, Ozzie Albies is a steady 2nd baseman and has been for years, Michael Harris in CF is as fun to watch as any player in baseball. The Braves hit home runs, the Braves drive in runners, the Braves score in bunches. What the Red Sox has over the Braves simply comes down to pitching. Boston’s pitching depth is the best in all of baseball. On any given night, the Red Sox can throw anywhere from 10 to 12 guys on the mound and get quality innings and outs upon outs. If and when the Boston Red Sox beat the Atlanta Braves, the story will not be the hitters, it will be the men on the mound. And this is why the Boston Red Sox, in my opinion, will be crowned the 2026 Major League Baseball World Champions in just about 1 month’s time.
