The Baseball Rookie – The Pop Heard Round The Corner

Nora, the Blue Weimaraner, came down to where Rookie and Radar (the German Shepherd) were sitting and watching the game. “Something is wrong with Dozier (the Doberman Pincher)” barked Nora, “He is acting really scared and I’m afraid he’s going to run away.” Rookie, Radar, Nora, and Dozier all played in the same neighborhood and had been friends since they were puppies. “Let’s go check it out Radar,” woofed Rookie. And the two neighborhood friends followed Nora to the outfield concourse area of the stadium.

“Hey bud,” woofed Radar, “whatcha doing over here?” Dozier anxiously barked to his friends, “did, did, did you hear that loud noise? It sounded like fireworks. You guys know I can’t take the loud sounds of fireworks. I’m scared.” Rookie, Nora, and Radar tried to calm Dozier down any ways they could. Their friend was in a really tough spot.

And just as Dozier had nervously stated, the sound of “pop, pop, pop” came rushing into the neighborhood dogs’ ears. Each dog turn to hear the sound. “See,” woofed Dozier, “I told you guys there was fireworks or something. I’m going to split.” Just then, Rookie calmly lifted his nose to the air and smelled…popcorn? “Let’s walk over to the sound and see what it is,” barked Rookie, “do you want to stay here Dozier or go with us?” Dozier reluctantly followed his three pals towards the pop sound and…

It was their buddy, Rocko (the Labrador Retriever) who was making a fresh batch of popcorn. “Ah ha,” woofed Rookie, Radar, and Nora all at the same time. “Hey gang, are you guys having fun at the game? Some night, huh,” barked Rocko as he scooped another cup of cooked popcorn into a box. “So, it was the popping of the popcorn, not fireworks. Boy, do I feel foolish,” woofed Dozier.

Rookie laughed, “nah, we all thought it was fireworks too, Dozier.” The dog friends all laughed out loud. Rocko picked up a fresh batch of popcorn and tossed it in the air for his neighborhood friend Dozier. “Here you go, Dozier, this one is on on the house.” Nora, Radar, Dozier, and Rookie all took turns jumping in the air and catching popcorn before they returned to their seats to watch the baseball game.

Stay tuned for more adventures at the ballpark featuring Rookie, Radar, Nora, Rocko, Dozier, and all the neighborhood dogs and friends attending this very special Bark in the Park event. Story content – Noel P. Roby, the Baseball Storyteller. Images, have to credit my creativity pal, Copilot.
