I am excited to share some exciting community baseball news out of Virginia Beach’s Cox High School. On Saturday, May 9th, there will be a benefit game featuring two of the best high school baseball teams, not only in their respective districts (Beach, Southeastern), but in the entire state of Virginia High School baseball. Perennial powerhouse baseball programs Cox High School (Virginia Beach) will host Great Bridge High School (Chesapeake) in the 2nd Annual Devin Flaherty Classic. The game will be played at Cox High School, game time will be 11am. Here is more from Head Varsity Baseball Coach Matt Ittner, Cox High School, on the game:
“We look forward to having you out at the park this coming Saturday for our second annual Devin Flaherty Classic to benefit D-Feet Cancer. This game is special for our program because it honors two very important individuals. Devin Flaherty, a 2018 graduate of our program, lost his life to cancer in 2022. Dalton Fox a 12-year-old boy who grew close to our program passed away in 2021. All proceeds from the game are donated to D-Feet Cancer the Dalton Fox Foundation. Both families will attend the game on Saturday. I have attached an image to this email to help promote the event.“

As of May 3rd, Cox High School Baseball sits at 13-1. Great Bridge has a record of 9-5. Both Cox High School and Great Bridge High School have impressive baseball alumni, including a host of former Division 1 players and some Major League talent like Chris Taylor (Cox), Michael Cuddyer (Great Bridge) and Justin Upton (Great Bridge). It should be a fantastic matchup on the field featuring two very high level baseball programs.

(Frank W.) Cox High School is located off Shorehaven Dr, with the baseball field located down Falcon Crescent, both off N Great Neck Road here in Virginia Beach. Falcon Crescent does have street parking, although based on past experience, the street parking fills up pretty quickly. Figure on seeking additional parking options in the main Cox High School parking lot. I’m guessing there will be signage and folks helping direct traffic. Per the flyer, the game will start at 11am, with some other activities happening pre-game, so plan ahead if you plan on attending the event. Huge thanks to HC Matt Ittner for the information on the game and the event flyer for ticket information. Time and weather permitting, I will see you at Cox High School next Saturday at 11am. Really looking forward to this exciting community event, helping to support some amazing local charities, and watching two of the finest local VA High School baseball teams square off.
