Sharing Baseball News – 3rd Annual Norbie Wilson, Battle Of Mill Dam Road Game Scheduled For May 1st

I am excited to share some news and an update on a local Hampton Roads fundraiser that connects baseball to the Alzheimer’s Association. The 3rd Annual Battle of Mill Dam Road baseball game between neighboring schools First Colonial High School and Cape Henry Collegiate will be played this Friday, May 1st at First Colonial High School. The original date was to be Saturday, May 2nd but due to some impending bad weather, I am guessing the organizers smartly shifted from Saturday to Friday. Here is the official word from the FCHS Instagram page:

Although the official title of the game is the Battle of Mill Dam Road, the game is really an honor to former FCHS Head Baseball Coach Norbie Wilson. Coach Wilson, like many of our loved ones diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, remains a prominent figure in the Hampton Roads and Virginia baseball scene. There is a fundraising page which succinctly lays out the purpose of the game – “I am fundraising to honor Norbie Wilson and all those facing Alzheimer’s.” Here is the link to that fundraising page:

According to the FCHS IG post, all proceeds from the game will be donated to the Southeastern Virginia Alzheimer’s Association to fund local care, support, and research. Alzheimer’s and mental illnesses like dementia affect so many of our loved ones, parents, grandparents, former coaches, former teachers. If you can attend the game, great. If you can donate to this worthy cause, great. I look forward to attending the game, time and weather permitting, to get some additional information, photos, and stories to share. And as the post suggests, “some games are bigger than baseball.”
