Monday Afternoon Baseball Visit To Bob Hannah Stadium, University of Delaware Blue Hens

My next pit stop on my travels north to South New Jersey (ArcBest trip) was the City of Newark, Delaware and the University of Delaware. Paying close attention to the directions on Google Maps, I made a left turn into the driveway heading into campus and was stopped by a security guard. The guard asked me what my purpose was, I told him that I wanted to check out the baseball field, and he navigated me past the construction zone area and over to Bob Hannah Stadium. I was able to park in the parking lot right behind the first base dugout and start my self guided tour of the baseball park and surrounding area.

The University of Delaware Blue Hens baseball team plays in the NCAA Division I’s Conference USA. The stadium is named after longtime Blue Hens Head Baseball Coach Bob Hannah, who skippered the Blue Hens from 1965 to 2000, according to his statue, which sits behind the front gate entrance in a shaded memorial spot. The Blue Hens had a record of 19-35 in 2026, with a conference record at 6-23. The Blue Hens were 15-12 at home.

Monday was an amazing day for a road trip. The sun was shining brightly, few clouds here and there, no shot at rain, warm summerlike temperatures, and really fantastic for taking baseball photos. So, I hopped out of my rental car and began my tour with a few photos/views behind home plate.

From the backstop bleacher area, I took a walk towards the third base side and out into the left field fan area. There was a batting cage and bullpen set up just passed the fan area. A big hill was the perfect spot to take in some great views of Bob Hannah Stadium. I snagged a few photos of the field and batting cage area from the elevated spot.

Circling back behind the bleachers, I took in the views from the first base side of the stadium. To the right of the stadium, I could see construction vehicles and workers at an adjacent parking lot and perhaps an on campus construction project. Knowing I still had about an hour or so to get to my final destination in NJ, I snapped a few more photos from the right field area before hopping back into my rental car.

After leaving the parking lot of Bob Hannah Stadium and reconnected with the security guard I met when I arrived, I headed north into the gauntlet that is the NJ Turnpike until I reached my final spot in Mount Laurel, NJ. My stop at the University of Delaware and Bob Hannah Stadium was awesome. The field looked amazing, there is just something so picturesque about a turf field. I loved all the blue and yellows everywhere, the colorful signs and outfield banners really popped for me. It was great reading about Coach Bob Hannah and his Delaware Blue Hens coaching achievements. Overall, it was a fantastic Newark (DE) baseball experience on my self guided tour of the University of Delaware’s Bob Hannah Stadium, home of the Blue Hens baseball team.
