2025 has been a strange year weather wise. Heavy rains and massive storms stretch from Texas to Virginia some weeks. The result, baseball wise, is a ton of cancelled/postponed/shortened games. In the pockets of good, playable weather, we did have some summer collegiate and amateur baseball (SCABL) games last night. Here are the SCABL teams and league stories I am following this morning:
Just two out of a possible 6 games last night in the highly competitive New England Collegiate Baseball League. Waves vs Navigators and Westerners vs Blues found enough space in the bad weather of New England to get their games in. By the way, Bristol Blues’ Muzzy Field is an amazing, throw back baseball park. A must see field for the baseball enthusiast.

Game update added post publish – Game updates from the Old North State League via their IG page:
Skies look good here in neighboring Virginia, so fingers crossed the ONSL will get these games in today.
Huge shoutout to the social media team at NABA Richmond. I am hooked on their amazing graphic artwork and posts, like this one showcasing today’s game featuring the Tappahannock Tides vs. Deltaville Deltas.
Local Norfolk State University home run king and star outfielder, Justin Journette, has entered the transfer portal. Journette, who plays summer collegiate baseball for the Green Bay Rockers of the Northwoods League, posted this message on his IG page:
The Appalachian League, or Appy League as many call it, is a high level, summer collegiate baseball league that features top collegiate baseball talent every summer. According to its bio, “The Appalachian League is a 10-team summer collegiate baseball league played in the heart of the Appalachian region of the United States and is part of the Major League Baseball (MLB) and USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP). The PDP is a collaborative effort between MLB and USA Baseball that establishes a player development pathway for amateur baseball players to professional baseball in the United States.” Definitely a league to keep an eye for top baseball talent.
Can’t get to Cardines Field in Newport to see a George Donnelly Sunset League game? I know, me too!!! But, no worries because we can watch the game on the GDSL YouTube page. Like this one featuring Town Dock vs. Mudville. How cool is this?!?
Somehow, the Coastal Plain League was lucky enough to get a number of games in last night. This baseball fan is certainly not complaining, as there were a ton of great games throughout the CPL network of teams. Including another W for the Peninsula Pilots. That is 6 straight if you are counting at home, like me.
Home opener for the Niagara Falls Americans in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. And the fans were rewarded with a 7-4 win over the Niagara Ironbacks at historic Sal Maglie Stadium, just minutes from the famous Falls of Niagara Falls.

Two games played in the Futures Collegiate League last night, June 6th. Worcester over New Britain 5-3 and Vermont overtaking Westfield 11-10. Box scores below:

The Peninsula Pilots are off to a fantastic start in the Coastal Plain League 2025 summer season. Huge crowds mean take extra steps to prepare for your next Pilots game – like buying tickets ahead of time, thinking about parking because the War Memorial lot gets filled pretty quick on game days. The Pilots are an amazing evening of baseball, so plan ahead and I will see you this summer at War Memorial!
I have a few places in North Carolina circled for baseball trips this SCABL season. One is the Edenton Steamers and their home field, Hicks Field. It is on the National Register for Historic Places and I cannot wait to check it out this summer. In fact, the River City Skippers are playing there tonight, so maybe I will take the drive down to Edenton and check this one off my experience bucket list!
And as always, if you have a box score, game recap, photos, or news from your SCABL team or league, send it my way. I am happy to share your SCABL news on my baseball blog and social media pages.
