“And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”
This quote was taken from a poem by Francis Scott Key called “Defense of Fort McHenry.” Key’s poem was later transferred into the lyrics for our national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The North Kingstown Blog would like to take a moment to thank the many servicemen and servicewomen in our community and our nation. Many retired and current servicemen and servicewomen have become local doctors, teachers, electricians, business people and are serving our community in other capacities. These men and women sacrificed family time, maybe college or a career, to join the armed forces in defense of our great nation. In your travels this weekend, at a cookout or a family gathering or during Wickford’s Annual Memorial Day parade, take a moment to acknowledge their sacrifice. It only takes a few seconds and 5 words to make someone’s day.
