A Salute to the Ultimate Volunteer On Memorial Day

Being a part of youth baseball for my sons has been such an honor and a joy. I volunteer, along with 40 to 50 other men and women here in North Kingstown every year to coach, write articles, rake the fields, hang banners, throw batting practice, and whatever North Kingstown Little League needs me to do. I work a full time job, as do many of the volunteers, and put in many hours at the field as a volunteer. Volunteering my time to help others, especially our youth baseball players, is incredibly rewarding. In my opinion, without these volunteers, our … Continue reading A Salute to the Ultimate Volunteer On Memorial Day

North Kingstown’s St. B’s Tee Ball League Season To Start In June

Ed Cooney, Jr and I have known each other since we were born, we just didn’t realize it. Our families, The Cooney’s and my mother’s family (The Walsh’s) grew up together in Wareham, MA just outside of Cape Cod. My mother remains friends with the Cooney’s of Wareham and now a new generation of Cooney’s here in North Kingstown. They are such a wonderful family, so generous with their time, so important to have great people like Ed and his family in this community and this world, to be honest. It has been great catching up with Ed at baseball … Continue reading North Kingstown’s St. B’s Tee Ball League Season To Start In June

What does your resume as a baseball player look like?  Did you play in Little League®, American Legion travel teams, maybe for your local high school baseball team?  Did you try out for a college team or summer league team after high school?  Play a few years hoping to get your big break and get picked up by a professional team?  Then reality set in for you? Graduate from college, then start a career, maybe travel the country or start a family?  Or wait a minute, that just describes my baseball career.  Does it sound like something you experienced? Now … Continue reading The Rhode Island Men’s Senior Baseball League – Where I Belong

Hey Rising Stars of Little League®, Left Field Ain’t So Bad

I have been coaching youth baseball, especially Little League®, for close to 10 years. No matter which division I have coached in – from Tee Ball to the Majors – the youth baseball players have their favorite and desired positions they want their coach to put them at defensively on the baseball field. Most, if not all, love to be on the mound pitching in front of their family and friends. Some love to catch and be part of every play in the field defensively. Others want to play shortstop or even first base so they can get a steady … Continue reading Hey Rising Stars of Little League®, Left Field Ain’t So Bad

How A Pitcher Can Get Three Outs The Easy Way

Ah Ha!  Got your attention with that statement.  That’s the goal of every coach, every player, every team from Little League® to the Pros.  Three up and three down.  An easy 1-2-3 inning.  Get back to hitting and scoring runs.  For a Little League® pitcher, there is no greater satisfaction on the mound then three easy outs.  So, how can a youth baseball pitcher achieve this three up, three down system on a regular basis.  Let’s highlight a few good practices that help get your defense off the field and into the batter’s box. Throw Strikes, especially Strike One – … Continue reading How A Pitcher Can Get Three Outs The Easy Way
