Ten Things I Love About The Pawtucket Red Sox Experience

I have been going to McCoy Stadium to see Pawtucket Red Sox (or more commonly referred to as PawSox) games for 30 years.  It is situated on the same site, 1 Columbus Ave, as it was when I first started driving to games as a teenager.  The entrance, the ticket window, the available parking lots, these have all remained constant.  Sure, the exit off Route 95 has changed (a bit), the price for admission has gone up (slightly), and some of the stadium’s accommodations have changed (for the better).  But the experience and the thrills and the beauty of minor … Continue reading Ten Things I Love About The Pawtucket Red Sox Experience

Rhode Island’s John H. Urwin III Tournament Set To Begin July 14th

One of the best friendship tournaments in the state of Rhode Island is the John H. Urwin III Tournament.  Coventry Little League hosts this tournament every July at their Wood St. and Paine Field locations.  It is a great tournament with exciting games, great crowds, and thrilling baseball.  There is a U10 division and teams from all over Rhode Island flock to Coventry to play every year. Some of my fondest memories as a coach were in that tournament a few years back. Coaching my son and his friends he grew up playing Tee ball with was such a thrill … Continue reading Rhode Island’s John H. Urwin III Tournament Set To Begin July 14th

A Salute To The Fans of Youth Baseball

Players receive trophies for their play on the field.  Coaches receive accolades and gift cards for a job well done with the kids.  Baseball leagues receive plaques and maybe a trip to the Mayor’s office for a photo opportunity.  And all of this would not be possible without YOU, the Fan. The Fan is a Mom, a Dad, a Grandparent, a neighbor, a guardian, who unselfishly puts a child’s desire to play youth sports, like baseball, on the front burner of their busy life.  A Fan drives an up and coming rising star baseball player to practice after working 8 … Continue reading A Salute To The Fans of Youth Baseball

Location, Location, Location – A Pitcher’s Guide to Success

I was primarily an infielder and outfielder in Little League®, middle and high school baseball with a pretty good arm.  In the summer months, for Babe Ruth and American Legion teams, I would try out pitching with some success.  For most part, I would just try to rear back and throw it by the batter.  I never really gave much thought to where it would end up, just that I had a pretty good arm and I could strike out most batters with my fastball.  Then, reality set in as I began to face better competition. The reality was that … Continue reading Location, Location, Location – A Pitcher’s Guide to Success
