How to Develop Exceptional Baseball IQ In Youth Baseball

Being a Boston Red Sox fan since birth, I have grown up to despise the New York Yankees. However, despite this, one player always stood out above the rivalry whom I admired as much as any other player on either team, and any player whom I have ever seen play baseball.  Derek Jeter.  Why? His baseball IQ was the highest I have ever witnessed.  That fact always impressed me.  Jeter was always in best possible fielding position, made the easy plays, made the spectacular plays, made his teammates better by being in the right place at the right time, more … Continue reading How to Develop Exceptional Baseball IQ In Youth Baseball

How Baseball Players Can Aid Earth Day Campaign to End Plastic Pollution

The Earth Day Campaign for 2018 is “End Plastic Pollution.”  It is a very important campaign, especially here in Rhode Island, where our beaches, our nature paths, our baseball fields are often littered with plastic.  So, what can we do as a state, as a baseball community, as an individual to help end plastic pollution?  Here is one simple way to make a difference. Store purchased plastic bottles of water, sports drinks, food containers, and more often wind up in the trash or not deposited into proper recycling bins.  Consider filling up a reusable water bottle with water or your … Continue reading How Baseball Players Can Aid Earth Day Campaign to End Plastic Pollution

One Town Came To Cheer One League – North Kingstown Wickford LL

Opening Day ceremonies have been a tradition for baseball leagues from Little League to the Majors for as long as baseball has been played. After months of planning and on the most incredible weather day we have seen in weeks, the North Kingstown Wickford Little League’s Opening Day ceremonies finally took place on Saturday, … Continue reading One Town Came To Cheer One League – North Kingstown Wickford LL

Little League Baseball Taking a Huge Swing at Safety for 2018

As of January 1, 2018 a new bat standard was implemented by Little League baseball. This new bat standard was first introduced to league commissioners in the summer of 2017, with tons of great information available at league meetings, online discussions, and via the official website of Little League baseball, www.littleleague.org. If you are a youth playing Little League baseball this spring, you have already been advised that the bat you used in 2017 will not longer be allowed. Here is my rational behind the rule change. Youth sports is a fantastic way to get kids involved in a wide range … Continue reading Little League Baseball Taking a Huge Swing at Safety for 2018

The Beach Bar Experience At The Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort

On the property of the gorgeous Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico you have the amazing option of sitting by one of the lagoon or infinity pools or relaxing on a white sandy beach.   Each section of the resort – Sunrise, Nizuc, and Grand – offer the guest accommodations poolside or at the beach including comfortable seating, umbrellas to block the sun, drinks and food served by friendly staff, and all those unbelievable views of the Caribbean Sea.  Quite the dilemma, I know.  Both the pool and beach areas were clean, relaxing, and just stress reducing … Continue reading The Beach Bar Experience At The Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort

For Athletes of All Abilities, A Polar Heart Rate Monitor Is A Must Have For Your Fitness Program

I am blessed to have two parents with strong backgrounds in medicine.  I followed a slightly different path in the health care industry by attending Springfield College, earning a degree in Health and Fitness.  Part of my degree coursework was exercise physiology.  I learned why and how the body reacts to changes in intensity, pressure, and variations in the cardiovascular, muscular, and skeletal systems during exercise.  I learned how changes in your heart rate can affect respiration, body functions, core temperature, calorie expenditure, and more.  In school, we monitored heart rate by taking pulses or connecting subjects to machines.  Upon graduating … Continue reading For Athletes of All Abilities, A Polar Heart Rate Monitor Is A Must Have For Your Fitness Program
