The New England Club Baseball Association (NECBA) is entering its 21st season of competitive club baseball at local New England Universities and Colleges. The NECBA, according to Commissioner Steve Pinner, “was formed in the fall of 2000 when the University of New Hampshire cancelled their varsity program. Their coach, Pete Michel, kept the team alive as a club, and founded the NECBA with clubs from three other schools: the University of New England, Central Maine Community College, and my alma mater Boston University. The Rhode Island Mens Senior Baseball League (RIMSBL) is in midst of another successful season here in 2022. RIMSBL has been playing competitive baseball games since the middle of May in its three age division – 30+, 40+, and 50+. And having been to a number of games over the past 4 years, these RIMSBL players are not just showing up and having a few laughs and walks down memory lane. The 2022 Joe Charette Memorial Tournament is two weeks of 10U and 12U baseball competition here in Rhode Island. This past week, the 10U teams competed in pool play during the week, were seeded 1 through 8 for the weekend games, then played in a single elimination bracket of games at Dow Field, home of Chariho Little League. A few mornings ago, I was throwing batting practice to an old baseball friend and current Mens Senior Baseball Circuit Free Agent, Jay Sutton. I received an email this week from Strike Zone Director Dan LaCorbiniere regarding an upcoming umpire course. Dan and I connected earlier this year when Strike Zone was opening up and this course continues the Strike Zone philosophy of integrating sports and education. Through Bandits Baseball RI Director of Operations David Roy, I got to learn more about the 2022 Bandits 16u Showcase Team’s summer long baseball journey. Coach Roy and I have stayed in contact over the years about the Bandits organization and I always look forward to his photos, updates, and player profiles.
