Swipe for a Cause – Supported Locally by Sampson’s Automotive, LLC

Swipe for a Cause donates 5% of their annual gross to Home and Hospice of Rhode Island.  In addition, they support a number of other causes for their out of state merchants.  The beauty of these statements is that Swipe for a Cause does not raise rates to cover their charitable ways.  Their credit card processing rates are low and stay low.  For more information on their services, visit http://www.swipeforacause.com. This week we are starting a series devoted to local businesses who have enrolled in the Swipe for a Cause program to help support hospice and other charity.  Our first … Continue reading Swipe for a Cause – Supported Locally by Sampson’s Automotive, LLC

Getting My Body Ready to Tackle, I Mean Play Golf

I have been training this winter for a number of reasons – weight loss, overall strengthening of my aging body, and preparation for outdoor activities whenever the snow melts.  Well, the snow is just about gone and all of my hours in the gym are about to be put to good use.  Yes, I’m ready to go out and golf. I recently consulted Ian Manning, local physical therapist at Orthocore Physical Therapy.  Ian is certified through the Titlelist Institute to treat golf injuries as well as improve golf performance.  I asked Ian about some of the important exercises I will … Continue reading Getting My Body Ready to Tackle, I Mean Play Golf

Cigars and Guitars – A Jammin’ Good Time at the Carriage Inn & Saloon

At the Carriage Inn & Saloon in North Kingstown, an age old tradition is being revisited.  Musicians come together to play and share their love of music – no amplifiers, no guitar effects, just acoustic instruments.  Instruments like the acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, harmonica, and of course singing voices of all pitches.  The jam session is called “Cigars and Guitars” and it takes place at the North Kingstown restaurant either indoors (minus the cigars) in bad weather or outdoors in the more seasonal times.   It takes place on a Monday night, when the restaurant itself is not open for regular … Continue reading Cigars and Guitars – A Jammin’ Good Time at the Carriage Inn & Saloon

Changeup – The Most Important Pitch A Young Pitcher Can Learn

Opening Day 2015 for the Boston Red Sox was a huge success.  Runs, great pitching, a revamped offense, and that glorious hope of getting back to the championship level of play Red Sox fans want and let’s face it, demand.  Clay Buchholz won his first start and looked very, very sharp.  I’ve watched CB for quite a few years now.  The photo above was taken in the grassy centerfield area of McCoy Stadium about 6 years ago of Clay warming up. One of the many pitches in Clay Buchholz’s arsenal on the mound is a changeup.  A changeup is essentially a … Continue reading Changeup – The Most Important Pitch A Young Pitcher Can Learn

Park Your Car and Walk Through A Village

I have been lucky enough to grow up on a small town that has a ton of character. Wickford Village is situated on the water and has interesting buildings, shops, people, natural beauty, you name it.  There is a main throughway through Wickford as well as a number of side streets to marinas, residences, and small shops.  There is public parking as well as street parking in front of restaurants, jewelry stores, and other retail shoppes.  If you drive through Wickford and look around, you will see a pretty good share of these things I’ve mentioned.   But, my recommendation is … Continue reading Park Your Car and Walk Through A Village

That festival took place at the North Kingstown High School last Thursday, April 2 and here are the details. WMS Performs Brilliantly at a “Night of Jazz” in Wakefield

Toes were tapping, fingers were snapping, and families were clapping last night at the “Night of Jazz” concert at Curtis Corner Middle School.  Kids from 4 local schools – Davisville Middle, Wickford Middle, Cole Middle, and host Curtis Corner Middle – performed a wide array of jazz classics much to the delight of the packed auditiorium. Let’s give the “Night of Jazz” performers and instructors a lot of credit for their dedication to music. Playing jazz classics from such legendary arrangers as Coltrane, Conti, and Richard Rodgers, these middle school musicians were precise, proud, and highly entertaining.  The host school … Continue reading WMS Performs Brilliantly at a “Night of Jazz” in Wakefield
