My New and Improved Golf Swing – Courtesy of Orthocore Physical Therapy

When I learned about Orthocore Physical Therapy opening a studio (right next to their current space at 7610 Post Rd. in NK) devoted to improving golf swings and strength training, I was intrigued. So, I took a camera crew to Orthocore Physical Therapy and took part in a lesson.  Ian Manning of Orthocore Physical Therapy was my golf instructor for the hour and he showed me how the simulator worked.  First off, Ian is certified through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) to treat golf related injuries, and help increase golf performance.  His hands on approach to instruction on the golf swing is … Continue reading My New and Improved Golf Swing – Courtesy of Orthocore Physical Therapy

Bonds, Clemens – Put them In The Hall of Fame…Under One Condition

What do Michigan, Syracuse, and Ohio State Universities have in common?  They are all powerhouse NCAA schools with high profile coaches, athletes, and stadiums.  All have won national championships in football, baseball, basketball, just to name a few. And, all of them have had to vacate victories due to NCAA sanctions against them. Most recently, Syracuse University basketball head coach Jim Boeheim will vacate 108 wins due to NCAA sanctions against Syracuse. Boeheim, by the way, is in the Basketball Hall of Fame (elected in 2005) and there are no imminent plans for his removal. This past weekend, Alex Rodriguez … Continue reading Bonds, Clemens – Put them In The Hall of Fame…Under One Condition

Walk Onto the 3rd Hole and Down Memory Lane

Growing up in North Kingstown, I have many childhood memories of people and places.  One such memory was jogged yesterday, as I was approaching the 3rd Hole at Kings Crossing Golf Club, formerly Woodland Greens Golf Club.  In addition to working at Woodland Greens as a teenager, I was an avid player on their 9 hole course while I attended North Kingstown High School in the late 1980’s.  I remember one such day in May, roughly 25 years ago, that involved the 3rd hole, an NK High School Teacher, and a mutual agreement. So, the morning of this particular day, … Continue reading Walk Onto the 3rd Hole and Down Memory Lane

A Fitness Revolution at My Beloved North Kingstown Town Beach – Is It Possible?

I was at the North Kingstown Town Beach the other night with my sons. They were swinging on the swings and I stopped them to show them how coordinated I was.  I went to the end of the long swing set, the one that holds four swingers, and climbed up to the top.  My arms are long enough to span the metal braces and I was able to pull myself without breaking any bones.  I said to one of my sons “I still got it.  I used to do this when I was your age.” Then, it hit me. I … Continue reading A Fitness Revolution at My Beloved North Kingstown Town Beach – Is It Possible?

The Cold Spring House Photo – A Postcard and a History Lesson

I was going through some old photos of Wickford and North Kingstown and happened upon this photo. It is of the Cold Spring House that was located at 10 Beach St.  On the back of the photo is brief history of the property, its various owners, and some other historical information.  Here is what appears on the back: “The renovated Cold Spring House (1881 built), Wickford, Rhode Island.  (We later renamed to Wickford Inn.) Loring & Dorothy B. Records purchased property December 19, 1957 from Henry Carpenter. We sold property to Milton Brandt of Exeter, RI in 1965. 5th Annual Student Art Show at the Wickford Art Association Gallery

In 2010, Janice Strain approached the Wickford Art Association and asked if we would consider hosting a kid’s art show at the gallery.  Janice was a very motivated art teacher and advocate for students and their art.  Her passion for art and kids was very evident and I eagerly brought her proposal to the WAA Board of Directors.  The Board embraced the idea whole-heartedly.  Janice Strain’s passion for art is expressed here in her own words: “You know when a kid plays football the fans show up in great numbers to cheer him on.  I want to see this same kind … Continue reading 5th Annual Student Art Show at the Wickford Art Association Gallery
