Wally, Trophies, and Charity Will be Present at Wicked Fish this Sunday, July 19th

I was fortunate to go to Game 2 of the 2013 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.  My ticket from that game is hanging in my office.  I remember how special that year was – the beards, the tragedy of the Boston Marathon, and the team that lifted the spirits of Red Sox Nation.  Yes, there have been other championships but this one hit home to the millions of families in New England and the nation affected by what happened on Patriots Day, April 15, 2013.  Driving the point home in an impassioned speech, … Continue reading Wally, Trophies, and Charity Will be Present at Wicked Fish this Sunday, July 19th

The North Kingstown Solar Greenhouse Project – A Renewable Energy Solution Making a Difference

Quonset Business Park has been the focus of a lot of positive news lately.  Job creation, business development, and recreation facilities have been featured in local news and print media about Quonset Business Park. I myself have been frequenting the Quonset Point area lately for North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce events at AMWINS, attempting to play golf at the North Kingstown Golf Course, and enjoying the beautiful views from the various beaches and harbors.  One area of Quonset Business Park drew my attention on a recent bike ride with my son, so I reached out to Ted Kresse from New Harbor … Continue reading The North Kingstown Solar Greenhouse Project – A Renewable Energy Solution Making a Difference

Game, Set, and Match – A Great Week of Tennis Instruction Wraps Up Today

The North Kingstown Recreation Department has found a gem in Coach Cristelle Fox.  The NK Blog got a chance to meet Coach Fox this spring, shortly after the birth of her son.  The first of two of her weekly camps wraps up today at the North Kingstown High School tennis courts.  My son had a fantastic week.  He learned about the game – the rules, the swings – and had a lot of fun in the process.  I look forward to watching him develop as a player.  And, of course, playing him in a match.  Thanks Coach Cristelle Fox for … Continue reading Game, Set, and Match – A Great Week of Tennis Instruction Wraps Up Today

An Impressive All Star Team is at Work at Tony C’s Bar & Grill

Rebuilding a brand and repairing an image are two very common practices in the world of business.  Recognizing a deficiency in your business plan or your staff is often the first step in the process and requires a humble and realistic approach.  If the owner is involved in the rebuilding process, is humbled by his business’s lack of success and makes a commitment to strive for excellence, the business is on its way to a new and improved path.  I was once told by a highly successful health club owner “hire great people, pay them well, and keep them happy. … Continue reading An Impressive All Star Team is at Work at Tony C’s Bar & Grill

Bravo Wood Fired Pizza – Delicious Food Cooked at a Whopping 900 Degrees

In our continuing series on local restaurant options for the 53rd Annual Wickford Art Festival, I am happy to get to know Bravo Wood Fired Pizza.  I am a huge fan of pizza, as is my family.  I was very interested in the process so I grabbed some information from their website – http://www.bravowoodfiredpizza.com.  I also discovered that they have gluten free options, which is a huge bonus when a member of your friends and family has a gluten intolerance.  Typically, most pizza parlors offer dough that is made with gluten, so having a gluten free solution allows you to enjoy … Continue reading Bravo Wood Fired Pizza – Delicious Food Cooked at a Whopping 900 Degrees

The NK Blog Grants Wicked Fish “Cead Mile Falite”, A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

If you travel for work or with family, in just about any city in the US, you will find an Irish pub.  They are everywhere.  They have the Irish names like “Maguire’s” or “The Black Rose” or, as we once had in North Kingstown simply, “The Irish Pub.”  These Irish pubs feature similar styles in the mill work and bar fixtures and photos and certainly the Irish flag.  They carry all your favorite spirits and help you create a few after a pint or two.  They tend to be a lively joint where friends and family can unwind after a … Continue reading The NK Blog Grants Wicked Fish “Cead Mile Falite”, A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

The Wickford Art Festival is less than a week away.  Saturday July 11th and 12th, Wickford Village will be filled with artists, residents, and tourists enjoying our beautiful village and marveling at the many wondrous art exhibitors.  It has been our pleasure meeting some of the artists, support staff, and Wickford Art Association staff that put this great local event on.  Part of our promotional series was to increase awareness for tourists and local residents about local options for food, ice cream, coffee, and local flavors.  And our first article on local restaurants got such an incredible response, we have … Continue reading Order Up! After the Art Festival, Try a Specialty Dish

In our continuing series on the 53rd Annual Wickford Art Festival, the North Kingstown Blog reached out to a few local restaurants to find out what their specialty dish or drink was.  We also did some field work and sampled great local coffee, sandwiches, and drinks from our many great local establishments.  Whether you are from North Kingstown or enjoying our town for the Wickford Arts Festival, we hope you will support our local restaurants, coffee shops, and pizza parlors.  Here are a few of the responses from the restaurants themselves: Sonoma Bistro and WineBar 7366 Post Rd North Kingstown … Continue reading After the Art Festival, Try a Specialty Dish

Roberts Health Centre – A 5 Star Rehab and Nursing Center

One of my first, and frankly most impactful, jobs I had as a teenager was at Lafayette Nursing Home right here in North Kingstown.  I worked part-time in the kitchen, making snacks, tea, sandwiches for the residents.  My mother was a registered nurse there as well as other nursing homes in her impressive nursing career.  Part of my work shift was spent handing out meals, which led me to talking to the residents.  I learned a lot about being patient and being a good listener and that spending a few moments with an elderly person that may be lonely was … Continue reading Roberts Health Centre – A 5 Star Rehab and Nursing Center
