Local North Kingstown Resident Harriet “Gidget” Loomis Invents The CloudCush Mouse Cushion

Most people prior to the computer age would shriek at the sound and sight of a mouse.  After a bit of research, I discovered that the first prototype of a computer mouse was in the late 1960’s by a man named Douglas Engelbart.  The computer mouse was later made popular in the 1980’s via Apple Computer.  A computer mouse originally had a cord that connected it, the mouse, to the computer, giving it the appearance of a small rodent, also known as a mouse.  Computer mouses (or maybe its mice) can now be either wireless or with a cord and are … Continue reading Local North Kingstown Resident Harriet “Gidget” Loomis Invents The CloudCush Mouse Cushion

Some Sun-Sational Facts about Safe Sun and More from Direct Doctors

I have always struggled in the sun.  Call it genetics – fair skin, light eyes, blonde hair.  Not just with sunburns, but also heat related illnesses like dehydration.  My joke is that I would get sunburned just thinking about the sun.  Over the years, I become a lot more conscious of applying sunscreen and paying attention to the heat.  With school age children, I want the summer months to be as enjoyable as possible so I have become a huge advocate of safe sun activities and practices.  And this year, I asked the experts at Direct Doctors for their take … Continue reading Some Sun-Sational Facts about Safe Sun and More from Direct Doctors

Stephen J. Kareemo Plaque on the Quonset Bike Path

I have really enjoyed the Quonset Bike Path over the past few years.  At the end of the Quonset Bike Path, there is a turnaround.  In the turnaround is a plaque that has the name Stephen J. Kareemo.     I reached out to a few representatives from the Town of North Kingstown, which led me to a newsletter from the Quonset Development Corporation or QDC some  time back.  The newsletter mentioned the honoree’s family, notably brother David Kareemo.  I was able to contact David and he provided me with the following quote about the plaque.  Here is David Kareemo’s quote: … Continue reading Stephen J. Ebay Workshop at the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce – Start with a Great Title

At my recent ebay workshop at the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce, I discussed some of the successful strategies that have worked for me. I have been selling on ebay for about 10 years and was honored to speak to a group of ebay sellers who wanted to learn more about the basics of ebay.  Creating a sales buzz for your ebay listing starts with a great title.  The title of your listing begins to tell the story of your product and should grab the attention of your potential buyer.  Here are some tips on writing a great title for your product on … Continue reading Ebay Workshop at the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce – Start with a Great Title

Thinking of Upgrading to Windows 10? Be on the lookout for scams.

Beware of a serious threat via a spam campaign spoofing Microsoft and ultimately dropping dangerous “Ransomware” on users’ computers. Researchers at Cisco TALOS said on Friday they spotted spam carrying an attachment from an email address in Thailand spoofing update at Microsoft.com. Users who download and execute the files inside the zip archive are hit by the CTB-Locker brand of ransomware. The spam emails may trick victims into thinking this is their notification from Microsoft to upgrade; legitimate upgrades are done via download, not email, Microsoft said. If you see an email similar to the one above, DO NOT DOWNLOAD. Rhode Island PC is currently … Continue reading Thinking of Upgrading to Windows 10? Be on the lookout for scams.

Rhode Island Lifeguard Tournament Showcases The Best and Most Capable Lifeguards Guarding Our Beaches

Whether you are new to RI or have lived here your entire life, most will agree that Rhode Island has some of the most incredible beaches on the east coast, perhaps the entire USA.  These amazing beaches range from cove type beaches (which are great for families and have little to no surf) to surf beaches, which attract tons of beach goers, surfers, photographers, and nature lovers.  The surf beaches do have added risk due to potentially high surf, dangerous undertow at times, and the high volume of people on the beach itself.  The safety of the surf and the … Continue reading Rhode Island Lifeguard Tournament Showcases The Best and Most Capable Lifeguards Guarding Our Beaches

The North Kingstown Food Pantry Thanks Its Volunteers at 2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Day

The North Kingstown Food Pantry celebrated their 2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Day with a cook-out at the Little Red School House. About 50 volunteers and their families showed up to enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs provided by the Pantry Board of Directors. The Food Pantry is operated entirely by unpaid volunteers and one part-time staff coordinator. Volunteers log hundreds of hours each month with client service, sorting food, stocking shelfs, clerical work, grant writing, fund raising and maintenance. While many of the volunteers sign up as individuals, some are husband and wife teams or mom and kids teams. Some of the … Continue reading The North Kingstown Food Pantry Thanks Its Volunteers at 2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Day

Print World, A North Kingstown Printing Resource and Community Leader Since 1991

When you watch a Major League Baseball game, the majority of viewers will say “I’m watching the Red Sox vs. the Astros.”  Well, in Wickford Little League, the majority of viewers, player, coaches, and fans say “Print World is facing NDK Dental” or “Launch Trampoline Park is facing Dave’s Marketplace.”  Sponsoring local youth sports is not a new concept in any way.  I still remember my team, FOP, playing the Tarbox Motors Gremlins some 20 or so years ago in Wickford Little League.  The sponsor’s name just sticks with you and is a great way to advertise your services locally.  And … Continue reading Print World, A North Kingstown Printing Resource and Community Leader Since 1991
