North Kingstown High School Mattress Fundraiser Event – Sunday Sept. 25th

The typical fundraising campaign is one of the first business lessons a school age child learns.  Whether it is popcorn sales as a Boy Scout or those delicious cookies at Stop and Shop as a Girl Scout or the football calendars the NK Football team brings by my house every September, kids learn valuable skills about sales and business.  Knowing your product, asking for the sale, asking for another sale, an “up sale” perhaps, collecting money, on and on, delivering the product, and the follow up.  Fundraisers are a great way for kids to learn valuable people skills and a … Continue reading North Kingstown High School Mattress Fundraiser Event – Sunday Sept. 25th

Wickford Little League Awards Night – High Fives, Trophies, and Memories Galore

Wickford Little League held its Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, September 12th.  The banquet was held at Quonset’s “O” Club, just passed the North Kingstown Golf Course.  Player, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and family members gathered to honor the many, many great things that make Wickford Little League a Rhode Island tradition for over 50 years.  President Arnie Sarazen presided over the event as emcee.  Raffles from sponsors as well as other prizes were available during the night, with some great prizes being handed out.  Dinner was delicious, the mood was festive, and the Wickford Little League community was in great … Continue reading Wickford Little League Awards Night – High Fives, Trophies, and Memories Galore

My Thoughts On The Best Candidate in This Year’s Election

Last fall, I asked my office assistant, Melissa, to email all of the potential candidates running for the office of President of the United States.  I asked her to ask them a few questions about North Kingstown, RI and our community.  First, what would they do to improve our local economy, right here in North Kingstown? Second, how would they handle issues that affect Rhode Island families, such as rising health care costs, cost of living increases, wages?  Third, how would they look to improve our failing bridges, roadways, and other transportation issues?  I asked Melissa to send these questions in … Continue reading My Thoughts On The Best Candidate in This Year’s Election

End of the Summer Season Means Great Deals on Sporting Goods, Boats

As the thermometer makes its way down the pipe from summer to fall temperatures, outdoor activities start to wind down.  Summer months, especially here in Southern New England, are filled with camping, boating, tennis, and all sorts of outdoor fun.  And when the summer season is over, it is time to pack up that camper, pull the boat out of the marina, and zip up the case to those tennis racquets.  Or, in some cases, it is time to sell off unused sporting and camping gear to make room in the garage or in the yard. Ebay and Craigslist are … Continue reading End of the Summer Season Means Great Deals on Sporting Goods, Boats

The Music Mentor, Mr. I, Is Now The Teacher of the Year

When you develop a passion for something at an early age, a mentor can help enhance that passion so it will stay with you for life.  A youth sports coach who takes the time to show a Little League child how to throw a change-up.  A published author who helps a young writer explore new ways to engage an audience.  A Girl Scout leader who stays after meetings to work with her troop on fundraising flyers.  Or, in the case of my son, a music teacher who not only developed his talent, not only made him a better drummer, he made … Continue reading The Music Mentor, Mr. I, Is Now The Teacher of the Year

Windy Hike At Goddard Park With The Adventure Crew

The Labor Day Holiday weekend typically drives people to the beaches of Rhode Island for one last beach hoorah before school starts.  Even though the official end of summer doesn’t fall until late September, most view the Labor Day weekend as the end of summer.  The weather in New England in September is as varied as any part of the year – humidity, high temperatures one day and gusty winds, heavy rains another.  With the hurricane season producing storms from A to Z in late August to October, sometimes Mother Nature puts an unexpected spin on Labor Day weekend plans like cookouts, … Continue reading Windy Hike At Goddard Park With The Adventure Crew

The Boy Scouts of America – Community Service, Camping, and Lasting Friendships

My son Harrison has grown up with several close friends from Kindergarten to 5th grade at Fishing Cove Elementary.  One of them, Cameron Boyd, was a member of Harrison’s Cub Scout troop for years.  I asked Cameron’s Mom, Leigh Anne Boyd, what her impressions of scouting were?  What would she say to someone thinking about joining scouts here in North Kingstown.  And how can someone, especially a new family to North Kingstown, benefit from the scouting program.  Here is an excerpt from our conversation along with some great photos of some active scouts in our area.  Notice the smiles in every photo. … Continue reading The Boy Scouts of America – Community Service, Camping, and Lasting Friendships

The Town of North Kingstown, which includes Wickford Village and the North Kingstown Town Beach, has a number of events coming up which spotlight the pride and passion of our community.  A community which takes pride in its traditions, its beaches, its townspeople, its merchants, its efforts to remain a quaint, coastal village.  Events that draw not only residents of North Kingstown, but surrounding areas as well to our local shoppe owners, our town beach, our community centers, our sidewalk cafes.  The Wickford Village area has always had strong community leaders who have made it their goal to enhance the … Continue reading Wickford Village Events Show Action Speaks Louder Than Words

Wickford Chiropractic – Experts In Getting You Back To Activities of Daily Life

When you see a new health care provider – Doctor, Physical Therapist, Nutritionist, Personal Trainer – they make you fill out a form asking for your personal information and medical history.  In my case, my medical history is so involved and lengthy, I typically write “multiple, explanations upon request” to save time.  As an athlete and being fairly clumsy in my lifetime, I have incurred many, many injuries which are now the cause of some of my musculoskeletal aches and pains.  Being in the health and fitness industry, I have learned stretches and exercises from some of the top experts in … Continue reading Wickford Chiropractic – Experts In Getting You Back To Activities of Daily Life
