NK Teen Open Mic Night – Celebrating Talented NK Teen Musicians

The NK Teen Open Mic Night, hosted by the North Kingstown Marketing Company, was a huge success.  The event occurred at the North Kingstown Town Beach’s Cold Spring Community Center on Thursday, November 10th.  Teenage musicians living in North Kingstown and surrounding areas were invited to showcase their talents in a safe, friendly open mic format.  The event was also intended to raise money and civic pride in a local community organization, the Special Olympics of North Kingstown.  A donation box was set up at the entryway of the center so guests could donate to this great, local organization.  As … Continue reading NK Teen Open Mic Night – Celebrating Talented NK Teen Musicians

Wheelchair Accessibility Throughout The Moon Palace in Cancun

The Americans with Disabilities Act became law here in the United States in 1990.  According to the website, http://www.ada.gov, “The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.”  Essentially, this helps individuals with disabilities live, work, and play in both public and private places that are open to the general public.  Like, for example, resorts such as the Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico. As I walked around the … Continue reading Wheelchair Accessibility Throughout The Moon Palace in Cancun

My Top 10 Baseball Observations From The 2016 World Series

Good base running has nothing to do with speed.  Go back and watch Kris Bryant run the bases.  Not the fastest Cub by far, but the angles he took to round the bases were perfect. Flashy defensive plays are statistically less reliable than the safe defensive play.  Javier Baez made stunning defensive plays but also whiffed on a number of key routine defensive plays that could have spelled disaster for his team.  Ben Zobrist is half the athlete Baez is but I never saw him whiff on a routine play. To me, both cities- Chicago and Cleveland – won even … Continue reading My Top 10 Baseball Observations From The 2016 World Series

Signed Arnold Palmer Memorabilia on Ebay

Growing up in the pre-internet, pre-Sportscenter era, I learned about sports figures of the past through books, newspapers, and more importantly word of mouth.  My grandfather was an ardent sports fan – tennis, football, and most of all, golf.  And his favorite golfer, Arnold Palmer.  To my grandfather, Arnold Palmer represented the caddie, the scratch golfer, the local public course champion, the novice golfer.  Arnold Palmer was a golf legend for the people.  His legion of fans became known as “Arnie’s Army” and would follow Palmer from course to course in record numbers.  When I would visit my grandparents in … Continue reading Signed Arnold Palmer Memorabilia on Ebay

All Signs Point To A Positive Experience At The Moon Palace

In the weeks leading up to my trip to The Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico I used Google Translate to refresh the three years of Spanish I learned in high school.  A high school I attended some 30 years ago, I might add.  I wanted to have a few Spanish phrases and words refreshed to limit the awkwardness of being on the wrong side of a language barrier.  What if I needed help or was lost or couldn’t find a particular restaurant or needed assistance?  Being in a foreign country and not being able to speak the language can be an intimidating … Continue reading All Signs Point To A Positive Experience At The Moon Palace

Nightly Entertainment For Guests At The Moon Palace

The Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort offers so many activities for kids and adults – morning, noon, night, and late night.  One of the great family friendly activities is the nightly performances at one of the two entertainment stages on the resort.  There are a number of entertainment performances that Rachel and I were lucky to watch from our suite’s balcony, which was facing the entertainment stage in the Sunrise section of the resort.  There was also an entertainment stage at the Nizuc section of the resort.  I didn’t notice a stage at the Grand section of the resort, but … Continue reading Nightly Entertainment For Guests At The Moon Palace

The Weight Assisted Chin Dip Machine – What It Is and How It Works

I remember a time back in middle school when I couldn’t do a single pull-up.  I could hop up and grab the bar, no problem.  I could even use the momentum of hopping up and grabbing the bar to perform my first pull-up.  But then, gravity took over and as I lowered my body down from the bar, I would go down to the ground as if I had rocks in my shoes.  I always blamed my long arms but in reality, I just didn’t have a lot of strength in the muscles needed to perform a pull-up.  Muscles like … Continue reading The Weight Assisted Chin Dip Machine – What It Is and How It Works

North Kingstown Teen Open Mic Night – Thursday November 10th

North Kingstown Schools are blessed to have incredible music programs and music teachers.  My children have all participated in music programs at Fishing Cove Elementary, Wickford Middle School, and now the North Kingstown High School.  At each school level, there are concerts where parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends can attend to listen to the student’s progress in their instrument of choice.  These concerts always impress me – the teachers getting students to play together, the progress a student makes in his/her instrument over the school year, and the incredible turnout from loved ones there to support not only their child but … Continue reading North Kingstown Teen Open Mic Night – Thursday November 10th

Providence’s Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel Welcomes Lettuce Tonight

One of the great features in my Tahoe is my Sirius XM satellite radio.  I enjoy a wide range of music, so satellite radio is great on days I want blues or jazz or comedy or jam bands.  I can listen to the Grateful Dead channel or Pearl Jam Radio or decades specific stations like the 60’s, 70’s, or 80’s.  One of my favorite channels is Sirius XM Channel 29, Jam On.  Jam On features great jam band heroes of mine such as Gov’t Mule, Widespread Panic, and Dave Matthews Band.  It also features lesser known acts like Tauk, The … Continue reading Providence’s Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel Welcomes Lettuce Tonight
