NK High School Senior Sara Barker’s Rally for the Jimmy Fund

Since 1948, The Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars in support of the Dana Farber Institute in Boston.  Hundreds of local and national organizations, golf tournaments, road races, and local bake sales have helped raise money for this worthy charity.  It is the official charity of the Boston Red Sox.  According to the official website of the Jimmy Fund, http://www.jimmyfund.org, “The Jimmy Fund solely supports Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.” The boy (Einar Gustafson) known to all as … Continue reading NK High School Senior Sara Barker’s Rally for the Jimmy Fund

North Kingstown High School Presents Oklahoma! This Weekend

What do you get when you have a talented cast of actors, musicians, and production staff coupled with brilliant leadership by the teachers at North Kingstown High School? A fabulous performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!  Students, proud parents, North Kingstown businesses, and musical theater fans were treated to quite an entertaining evening.  With over 50 performers, a live orchestra, dance moves, lines, sheet music to follow, even the casual observer walked away thinking “Wow, they put a lot of work into this musical to make this happen.” Before going to the show at the North Kingstown High School, I read … Continue reading North Kingstown High School Presents Oklahoma! Fashion Show For A Cause To Be Held At North Kingstown High School

In my continuing series of articles on North Kingstown High School senior projects, I can’t help but think of the totality of these projects.  Yes, the project is school work and the senior is learning organizational skills, business and marketing practices, and communication skills.  But there are many more layers to the long term benefits which these seniors will take with them throughout their lives, whether they enlist in the military, go to college, or jump right into the workforce.  Understanding a cause, embracing it, involving the community to help spread the message, and of course donating time and money … Continue reading Fashion Show For A Cause To Be Held At North Kingstown High School

Great Deals On Bicycle Clothing, Gear, and Accessories

Spring season is just about a month away.  The warmer weather of springtime motivates people to get outdoors, especially cyclists.  Active cyclists count the days until the snow and ice are gone so they can enjoy the best scenery in Rhode Island and surrounding areas.  This is also a great time to take inventory of your bicycle, your bike gear, and accessories. I have just taken in a nice inventory of bike apparel and accessories.  All items are either new in packaging or new out of box and have never been used.  This inventory was from a local bike store … Continue reading Great Deals On Bicycle Clothing, Gear, and Accessories

2nd NK Teen Open Mic Night To Benefit Pennies For Patients Charity

Back in early November, a number of teens, parents, and musicians gathered at the Cold Spring Community Center.  The theme of the night was to promote the talented youth musicians located right here in North Kingstown and to raise money for a great local charity – The North Kingstown Special Olympics.  Teens sang, played guitar, laughed, and cheered for one and other in the 2 hour event hosted by the North Kingstown Marketing Company.  After a very successful and fun night, the total donation amount came to $205.50, which was then presented to the North Kingstown Special Olympics.  It was … Continue reading 2nd NK Teen Open Mic Night To Benefit Pennies For Patients Charity

The Gym Store Donates Customized Exercise Bike To The Lupus Foundation

For the past decade, I have been lucky to work with incredible visionaries and talented companies in the pre-owned fitness equipment industry.  There are companies that can take a rusted, non-functioning piece of equipment and make it look incredible and run like new.  The re-manufacturing or reconditioning process takes time but the results are very satisfied customers.  Someone with a background in design, fixing exercise equipment, and a little bit of showmanship can really stand apart from this crowded pack of fitness equipment suppliers. One of the best and brightest individuals is my friend Chris Kelly of The Gym Store. I … Continue reading The Gym Store Donates Customized Exercise Bike To The Lupus Foundation

The Water Journey at The Bodhi Spa – Sanitas Per Aquam, Health Through Water

Rachel and I recently visited a fantastic spa in Newport called The Bodhi Spa.  It was also recommended by local health and fitness expert Doug Perron, who is physical therapy assistant and is very in tune with proven therapy methods.  The Bodhi Spa is located on the lower section of Thames St. in Newport, past the boutiques, bars, and restaurants that I am accustomed to seeing when I visit Newport.  This unique spa (according to their brochure is the one and only of its kind in New England) offers a number of relaxing and invigorating spa and therapy treatments.  Rachel … Continue reading The Water Journey at The Bodhi Spa – Sanitas Per Aquam, Health Through Water

Living in New England, we are blessed to have so many incredible resources for medical care. And Boston Children’s Hospital is one of the best hospitals for care for children in need of medical care. My family and I should know. I spent a good part of my childhood battling bone disorders in my lower legs with the help of a team of doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital. Their excellence and dedication helped me … Continue reading Local Ping Pong Charity Event To Support Boston Children’s Hospital

Rhode Island Power Yoga Helps Local Student’s Senior Project

Rhode Island Power Yoga (RIPY for short) is going to be hosting a charity event for North Kingstown High School senior Ryan O’Donnell’s senior project on Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness.  I was interested to learn more about the yoga studio and their involvement with the charity event.  I recently stopped by Rhode Island Power Yoga’s studio here in North Kingstown and spoke with one of the owners, Renee Deslauriers. “His sisters (meaning Ryan’s sisters) come to the studio,” mentioned Renee when I asked about the connection between RIPY and Ryan.  “They have been asking Ryan to come into the studio to … Continue reading Rhode Island Power Yoga Helps Local Student’s Senior Project

Ryan O’Donnell’s Charity Yoga Event To Raise Awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis

One of the great rewards of writing about North Kingstown is getting to know its talented community members.  Some of our community members have owned businesses for years, while others contribute by volunteering their time with a worthy charity.  And in the past year, I have gotten to know some of our very talented youth from North Kingstown High School.  It has been a great honor to help support and promote the efforts of the senior class of North Kingstown High School and their very important senior projects. The latest community member that I would like to introduce you to is … Continue reading Ryan O’Donnell’s Charity Yoga Event To Raise Awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis
