RI Rays Fall Champions, ATC Looking For Players, The ALCS MVP, MSBL Father/Son Tourney News and More

As the fog continues to blanket the view out of my baseball office window, I thought I would shed some light on some recent Rhode Island Baseball News. Not bad for a baseball writer huh??? Fall championships were competed in and champions were crowned. A few AAU teams are looking for players to complete rosters for 2023. And a group of Rhode Island Father/Son teams competed in Arizona against other Father/Son teams from around the USA. Oh and we may have a Classical High School Baseball alumni hoisting a World Series trophy in about a week or so. (Harper, Wheeler, … Continue reading RI Rays Fall Champions, ATC Looking For Players, The ALCS MVP, MSBL Father/Son Tourney News and More

Can An Above Average Youth Rec Baseball Player Make It Up The Baseball Ladder Without Travel Baseball?

Happy October Saturday Morning everyone. I wanted to pose a question to the Rhode Island Baseball Community this morning and start a dialogue about a topic I am very curious about. In today’s youth baseball world, can an above average baseball player, who plays only recreation (Little League, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken) baseball make it to and through high school and into a collegiate program, possibly professional baseball organization without the benefit of ever playing AAU, travel, showcase baseball growing up? Wow, that was a long winded question so let’s break it down so we can analyze and discuss it … Continue reading Can An Above Average Youth Rec Baseball Player Make It Up The Baseball Ladder Without Travel Baseball?

What Would You Do If You Caught A Historic Home Run Baseball?

Picture this…Your local Little League baseball field, for time purposes let’s use Wilson Park’s Cooney Field, is abuzz one particular Saturday night in June. The local press is there (probably Will from the Independent Newspaper in the press box) along with yours truly. Youth baseball players from other teams are crowding the backstops, lining the perimeter of the foul lines and outfield fences. Parents have called in family and friends from out of town to the game. By the time, the lineup cards are announced, the stands around Cooney Field are packed and there is literally no “seat in the … Continue reading What Would You Do If You Caught A Historic Home Run Baseball?

If Your Name Is Judge, Celebrate Aaron Judge’s Historical Home Run With A Special Offer From Home Run Inn Pizza

Happy Wednesday everyone. Well, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees finally hit home run number 62 to take the top spot in the American League history books for most home runs in one season (American League). Sitting on #61 for a few games now, Judge calmly stepped to the plate last night in Arlington, Texas and drove a line shot into the left field bleachers to capture the baseball world’s attention – #62 surpassing Roger Maris (also of the New York Yankees). It took 61 years for the American League record to be broken. Congrats to Aaron Judge and … Continue reading If Your Name Is Judge, Celebrate Aaron Judge’s Historical Home Run With A Special Offer From Home Run Inn Pizza

The Best Rhode Island High School Baseball Team Since 1972 Project Has A Winner

For the month of September, I posted a question to the Rhode Island Baseball Community. Who do you think is the Best Rhode Island High School Baseball Team since 1972? I chose 1972 because that was the year I was born and this project and its answers have served as pseudo birthday present (actual birthday is in February) to me, a huge Rhode Island baseball fan. I asked fans to vote on who was the best team they played against or played for or cheered for or or coached or simply revered standing up against the backstop fences of Rhode … Continue reading The Best Rhode Island High School Baseball Team Since 1972 Project Has A Winner

Why Parents Are The Worst Judges Of Athletic Talent – Coach Wayne Mazzoni Advises On The Subject Of Recruiting

Throughout my day, I receive tons of great emails from parents, leagues, players, former players, schools, and organizations on a wide range of baseball subjects. I love reading about what’s happening in the baseball industry top to bottom, in the professional leagues, amateur leagues, local Rhode Island and New England based organizations, and college recruiting. This morning, I received an email from former Sacred Heart University Baseball Coach Wayne Mazzoni (random, I’m not affiliated with him, probably on his newsletter email list) with the attention grabbing title, “Why Parents Are The Worst Judges Of Athletic Talent.” Pretty good hook, if … Continue reading Why Parents Are The Worst Judges Of Athletic Talent – Coach Wayne Mazzoni Advises On The Subject Of Recruiting

10 Teams Moving On To Round 2 In The Best Rhode Island High School Baseball Team Since 1972 Tournament

Before I reveal the results of the “matchups” featured in my online project – The Best Rhode Island High School Team Since 1972 – I wanted thank the voters who contributed to this project over the past several weeks. I have received some incredibly detailed emails and analysis of teams vs players, eras vs era, and why one team should be considered the #1 team of all time, not just since 1972. The leaves are turning, the pools are closing, the baseball worlds for many are turning to school, soccer, football, I am well aware and 100% okay with all … Continue reading 10 Teams Moving On To Round 2 In The Best Rhode Island High School Baseball Team Since 1972 Tournament

Grab Your Glove And Let’s Catch Up On Some Rhode Island Baseball News

Good Tuesday morning to everyone in the Rhode Island Baseball Community. I hope everyone had a pleasant and safe Labor Day Weekend. The rain, which was seemingly stored somewhere in Mother Nature’s pantry since June, was released all at once yesterday around 11am. Most of Rhode Island collegiate students as well as elementary, middle, and high school students are or have been returning to schools. In fact, a North Kingstown School Bus is pulling up to my street as I write this to pickup first year NKHS students. I have an NKHS student that drives to school and is entering … Continue reading Grab Your Glove And Let’s Catch Up On Some Rhode Island Baseball News
