K Performance Baseball – Mark Cahill, Batting Cages, And Proven Results

I was first introduced to Mark Cahill when my oldest son, Spencer, took part in a developmental fall baseball program about 7 years ago.  Cahill, a local baseball instructor and former minor league pitcher, ran a program at Wilson Park helping young players on the basics of hitting, pitching, and fielding.  At the time, I had no idea how extensive Mark’s background was in baseball.  I was just grateful that Wickford Little League had a fall clinic to help develop player’s skills and fundamentals. As the press agent for Wickford Little League, I am constantly educating myself on local resources for … Continue reading K Performance Baseball – Mark Cahill, Batting Cages, And Proven Results

The Cybex 620A Arc Trainer – A Slimmer Version of a Legend

A few years back, I wrote about one of my favorite workout machines – The Cybex 600A Arc Trainer.  It was the first machine I had ever used that combined the movements of a stepper, elliptical, even a treadmill in one machine.  The rare combination of a wide range of resistance levels coupled with the ability to change the incline level made the Arc Trainer a legend in my mind.  And, it was one of the best calorie burning workout machines I had ever used.  It was truly a legendary product that put Cybex products in thousands of fitness centers, … Continue reading The Cybex 620A Arc Trainer – A Slimmer Version of a Legend

North Kingstown’s Chad Mansolillo Senior Project To Benefit RBI Program

Two of my favorite subjects to write about are baseball and the good deeds of North Kingstown residents, especially the youth of NK.  As the press agent for Wickford Little League, I love hearing about ball players (past and present) who are not only continuing with baseball, but also serving their community through volunteerism and charitable giving.  Recently, I was notified about the senior project of a former Wickford Little League star, who went on to become a star not only at the middle school level but continues to impress at the high school level.  His name is Chad Mansolillo and … Continue reading North Kingstown’s Chad Mansolillo Senior Project To Benefit RBI Program

The FreeMotion Cable Cross – A Thousand Exercises In One Machine

Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a bit.  However, I am not that far off.  The FreeMotion Cable Cross is a functional training style machine designed for strength training and conditioning exercises.  It is a commercially built machine that can stand up to demands of a health club, personal training studio, or athletic training center.  In all of my years as a fitness professional, I have found that functional training machines are the most useful and space efficient machines a health club or multiple use facility can have.  And the FreeMotion Cable Cross is one of the best. The FreeMotion Cable … Continue reading The FreeMotion Cable Cross – A Thousand Exercises In One Machine

The Indoor Cycling Bike – An Excellent Workout Option For New England Winters

New England weather is, to put it mildly, very unpredictable.  Let’s take the past week – we had temperatures in the 50’s, 30’s, and close to zero degrees.  If you are an avid cyclist who loves riding year round, winter can reek havoc on your cycling plans.  This is why indoor cycling bikes have become of one of the most popular forms of exercise.  I have owned an indoor cycling bike for about 15 years and have used it for cardio, rehabilitation, and overall fitness. An indoor cycling bike has several body size adjustments to help fit anyone from roughly 4 feet … Continue reading The Indoor Cycling Bike – An Excellent Workout Option For New England Winters

Getting Ready for Wickford Little League Using the Hit-A-Way® Station

Opening Day for the 2017 Wickford Little League season is just a few short months away.  Yes, I know, it is January 1st.  Yes, I know the temperature outside is hovering around 30 degrees.  Yes, most of us are still in football or basketball or indoor track mode.  However, there is no shame is working on baseball skills during these off season months.  You have heard all the quotes – “Practice makes perfect,” or “The best athlete is made in the off season,” or “Baseball withdrawal is real.” For the next few months, I will be introducing training aids, talking … Continue reading Getting Ready for Wickford Little League Using the Hit-A-Way® Station

Designing Your Home Gym With Commercial Fitness Equipment

I have worked in the health and fitness industry, specifically the fitness equipment industry, for over 20 years.  I have worked with health clubs, hospitals, universities, and physical therapy studios on solutions for their fitness equipment needs.  And, I have worked with homeowners on their unique fitness equipment wish lists.  Fitness equipment comes in many shapes and sizes.  Some are commercially built for heavy usage (15 to 20 hours a day) in a health club, personal training studio, or fitness center. While other pieces of fitness equipment are made for residential use, with the user exercising more like a few times per … Continue reading Designing Your Home Gym With Commercial Fitness Equipment

RISD Young Artist Program and The Comic Artist

My son Griffin has developed an keen interest in comics over the past few years.  Marvel and DC Comic movies, various comic books, and all of those great characters have really captured his attention.  And he has been drawing these characters for some time now.  And he is a phenomenal cartoonist.  I am not just saying that because I am his father.  Seriously, he is very talented. Over the summer, I learned about a program at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) called the “Young Artist Program.”  This program offers young artists, filmmakers, and creative types the opportunity to take … Continue reading RISD Young Artist Program and The Comic Artist

Jam Stage – Plug In, Tap The Microphone, And Record Your Music

For the past few years, my basement has served as a pseudo recording studio for the musician in my house, namely my son Spencer.  We have a drum kit, guitars, amplifiers, microphones, and harmonicas set up in the basement. When the music is playing, he is not only entertaining those in the house, but most likely the neighbors surrounding me.  This past fall, one of my neighbors recognized a song my son was playing on the drums. And he lives 3 houses down the lane.  Needless to say, it gets pretty loud.  Bonus is my son is a very good … Continue reading Jam Stage – Plug In, Tap The Microphone, And Record Your Music
