Cola Strong – Proudly Walking for Lincoln and Lucy in the Upcoming March of Dimes Walk at Colt State Park

-with Josh and Brienna Colacone Local North Kingstown parents Josh and Brienna Colacone have two incredible stories that continue to write themselves every day.  I was introduced to Lincoln and Lucy Colacone shortly after their premature births last year on a visit to Woman and Infant’s.  The care they received at Woman and Infant’s Hospital in Providence was nothing short of remarkable.  Angels dressed in nurse’s uniforms, hospital scrubbies, all working for the common goal of getting these Colacones ready for life.  And, as you can see by the photos, Lincoln and Lucy are ready for life.   Ready or … Continue reading Cola Strong – Proudly Walking for Lincoln and Lucy in the Upcoming March of Dimes Walk at Colt State Park

Cigars and Guitars – A Jammin’ Good Time at the Carriage Inn & Saloon

At the Carriage Inn & Saloon in North Kingstown, an age old tradition is being revisited.  Musicians come together to play and share their love of music – no amplifiers, no guitar effects, just acoustic instruments.  Instruments like the acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, harmonica, and of course singing voices of all pitches.  The jam session is called “Cigars and Guitars” and it takes place at the North Kingstown restaurant either indoors (minus the cigars) in bad weather or outdoors in the more seasonal times.   It takes place on a Monday night, when the restaurant itself is not open for regular … Continue reading Cigars and Guitars – A Jammin’ Good Time at the Carriage Inn & Saloon

Park Your Car and Walk Through A Village

I have been lucky enough to grow up on a small town that has a ton of character. Wickford Village is situated on the water and has interesting buildings, shops, people, natural beauty, you name it.  There is a main throughway through Wickford as well as a number of side streets to marinas, residences, and small shops.  There is public parking as well as street parking in front of restaurants, jewelry stores, and other retail shoppes.  If you drive through Wickford and look around, you will see a pretty good share of these things I’ve mentioned.   But, my recommendation is … Continue reading Park Your Car and Walk Through A Village

WMS Captures Superior Rating at RIMEA Band Festival at NK High School

I’m a proud member of the band at Wickford Middle School.  I play in the percussion group along with 8 other students – including 7th and 8th graders – under the leadership of my music teacher, Mr. Iadevaia.  We have been practicing extra hard these past few weeks in preparation for the RIMEA Band Festival. That festival took place at the North Kingstown High School last Thursday, April 2 and here are the details. There were 13 bands invited to the RIMEA Band Festival from all over the state of RI.  Six bands, including Wickford Middle School, participated in the morning … Continue reading WMS Captures Superior Rating at RIMEA Band Festival at NK High School

WMS Performs Brilliantly at a “Night of Jazz” in Wakefield

Toes were tapping, fingers were snapping, and families were clapping last night at the “Night of Jazz” concert at Curtis Corner Middle School.  Kids from 4 local schools – Davisville Middle, Wickford Middle, Cole Middle, and host Curtis Corner Middle – performed a wide array of jazz classics much to the delight of the packed auditiorium. Let’s give the “Night of Jazz” performers and instructors a lot of credit for their dedication to music. Playing jazz classics from such legendary arrangers as Coltrane, Conti, and Richard Rodgers, these middle school musicians were precise, proud, and highly entertaining.  The host school … Continue reading WMS Performs Brilliantly at a “Night of Jazz” in Wakefield

Marshall Poole – Local Artist Showcases his Bronze Art in Wickford, Providence

I caught up with local bronze artist, Marshall Poole, about his work.  He currently has one of his pieces of art entitled “Halo” at the Wickford Art Association gallery on Beach St.  In addition, he is going to have two pieces “Hitting the Core” and “Christine” at the URI Feinstein Providence Campus. You can see these three pieces of Marshall Poole’s art displayed in person or go to his website for more information on Marshall and his bronze artwork at http://www.marshallsbronzeart.com. Poole said he was married to an artist while in Arizona and got involved in casting bronze sculptures, and then … Continue reading Marshall Poole – Local Artist Showcases his Bronze Art in Wickford, Providence

“Night of Jazz” hosted byCurtis Corner Middle School

This Monday, March 30th, four local middle schools, including Wickford Middle School, will be participating in a “Night of Jazz” at the Curtis Corner Middle School.  I am really looking forward to hearing the performers, especially my son who will be performing under the instruction of Michael Iadevaia for Wickford Middle School.  It should be an amazing night of music for the kids and parents of these talented musicians. Quoting the immortal Lou Reed “One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you’re into jazz.” Wickford Middle School recognizes the unique developmental characteristics of the middle … Continue reading “Night of Jazz” hosted byCurtis Corner Middle School
