North Kingstown Recreation Department Summer Program – Tennis and Coach Cristelle Fox

Every summer up until high school, I took tennis lessons with the Town of North Kingstown.  It was part of a busy summer of recreation my brother, sister, and I participated in.  The tennis courts at the North Kingstown High School was where you could find me, some time after swimming lessons, and just before creative writing at the NK Town Library.  I was (and remain) a huge fan of the sport and still watch most of the major championships on TV.  It is a sport that combines athleticism with hand-eye coordination and it helped me develop athletically for both high … Continue reading North Kingstown Recreation Department Summer Program – Tennis and Coach Cristelle Fox

5th Annual Student Art Show at the Wickford Art Association Gallery

In 2010, Janice Strain approached the Wickford Art Association and asked if we would consider hosting a kid’s art show at the gallery.  Janice was a very motivated art teacher and advocate for students and their art.  Her passion for art and kids was very evident and I eagerly brought her proposal to the WAA Board of Directors.  The Board embraced the idea whole-heartedly.  Janice Strain’s passion for art is expressed here in her own words: “You know when a kid plays football the fans show up in great numbers to cheer him on.  I want to see this same kind … Continue reading 5th Annual Student Art Show at the Wickford Art Association Gallery

“Stars and Lights” – A Breathtaking Collection of Photos by David Zapatka

I feel so lucky to work in the creative world.  I recently attended a meeting about filming a documentary for the Rare Disease United Foundation at the Wickford Art Association.  At this meeting, I met a local North Kingstown photographer who works as a cameraman for national TV networks named David Zapatka.  After the meeting, David showed me and the other meeting attendees his collection of work, including his website of lighthouse photography. What I saw was awe inspiring.  Images I’ve seen up close and personal in New England photographed in such a way that I felt like I was seeing them for … Continue reading “Stars and Lights” – A Breathtaking Collection of Photos by David Zapatka
