New Pedestrian Crosswalk Signs Point To A Safer Wickford Village Experience

Depending on which internet site you read, the pedestrian crosswalk quite possibly dates back to ancient Pompeii, with huge blocks built into common roads to allow for people to cross safely.  Of course, they didn’t have cars in ancient Pompeii, to my knowledge, and so the modern crosswalk was designed around the turn of the century, and may be because of an op-ed written by a concerned traveler who wrote “Could you do something to help the pedestrian to recover the old margin of safety on our common streets and roads?” (Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedestrian_crossing)  Fast forward to modern Rhode Island and Wickford Village … Continue reading New Pedestrian Crosswalk Signs Point To A Safer Wickford Village Experience

How Parades Through Wickford Energize Our Spirits, Our Economy, Our Town

Wickford, Rhode Island can be described as many things.  Coastal village, family orientated community, eclectic stores, scenic, traditional, old school with modern conveniences.  I am sure I am missing a few but I would also add my own.  One of the best towns to host, watch, or participate in a parade.  Wickford has always been an amazing place for parades.  Classic cars, middle and high school bands, girls scouts, cub scouts, seniors, toddlers, politicians, dogs, bikers, veterans. They start early in the spring, with Wickford Little League marching to Wilson Park for Opening Day.  We have the proud and often … Continue reading How Parades Through Wickford Energize Our Spirits, Our Economy, Our Town

Pieces of History Tell the Story of a Soldier

My job on ebay is part writer, part photographer, part researcher, well let’s just say it has many parts.  Recently, a local resident dropped off some memorabilia from her late uncle’s estate.  He was in the United States Army during the World War II period in US history.  She was unclear what the monetary value of the items was, although the sentimental value was far too high to quantify.  She and her husband have been cleaning out her late relative’s estate, and these items were next to go.  A common situation with a lot of my ebay customers locally here … Continue reading Pieces of History Tell the Story of a Soldier

Wickford Little League – A Successful Brand On and Off The Field

The 2016 Spring Season of Wickford Little League Baseball was a memorable one to say the least.  Players from all levels continued to improve on their pitching, hitting, fielding, and sportsmanship.  Families and fans of Wickford Little League were treated to amazing catches, monumental home runs, and most of all, seeing the smiles on their sons and daughters faces when they hit the ball.  The memories shared by the players, coaches, and families will be cherished for years to come.  I can still remember my Wickford Little League playing days some thirty years later. The spring season transitioned into the … Continue reading Wickford Little League – A Successful Brand On and Off The Field

New Traffic Pattern Merging Onto Post Road Outside Wickford

As many North Kingstown and Southern Rhode Island drivers now know, there is a new traffic pattern on Post Road here in North Kingstown.  For those of you who do not know, there is a new traffic pattern on Post Road here in beautiful North Kingstown. The traffic pattern reduces the old Post Rd (pre-July, 2016), to one lane starting at the traffic light across from Wickford Appliance.  For those of us used to two lanes on Post Road, the new traffic pattern has received mixed reviews based on people I have spoken to. One area of concern I have … Continue reading New Traffic Pattern Merging Onto Post Road Outside Wickford

West Bay YMCA’s Anthony Orsini Shaves His Beard After $5000 Donation Mark Was Reached

Patricia Driscoll, Operations Director for the Greater Providence YMCA’s Kent and West Bay locations, emailed me last week about a cool event today.  The event took place at the West Bay YMCA located at 7540 Post Rd.  One of her staff members, Anthony Orsini, had been raising money for the Y’s YFA or Youth Financial Assistance program with a bit of marketing angle. Anthony is helping to raise money for the youth program that offers financial assistance to our community members in need for things like membership, child care, and YMCA Programs.  He thought up a cool angle.  “Help me raise … Continue reading West Bay YMCA’s Anthony Orsini Shaves His Beard After $5000 Donation Mark Was Reached

In Love & Light – A Humble and Passionate Message From Amanda Grant

A few months back, I had the pleasure of interviewing local merchant Amanda Grant of Amanda Grant Skin Care.  I had received several emails from her clients stating that Amanda was such a valued merchant and an even better human being.  As with most of my business blogs, I tend to shy away from personal questions and try to focus more on the business.  My goal with the North Kingstown Blog has always been to focus on the positive news this community and this state has to offer.  However, the reality of life is that there is hardship and sadness … Continue reading In Love & Light – A Humble and Passionate Message From Amanda Grant
