The North Kingstown Solar Greenhouse Project – A Renewable Energy Solution Making a Difference

Quonset Business Park has been the focus of a lot of positive news lately.  Job creation, business development, and recreation facilities have been featured in local news and print media about Quonset Business Park. I myself have been frequenting the Quonset Point area lately for North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce events at AMWINS, attempting to play golf at the North Kingstown Golf Course, and enjoying the beautiful views from the various beaches and harbors.  One area of Quonset Business Park drew my attention on a recent bike ride with my son, so I reached out to Ted Kresse from New Harbor … Continue reading The North Kingstown Solar Greenhouse Project – A Renewable Energy Solution Making a Difference

An Impressive All Star Team is at Work at Tony C’s Bar & Grill

Rebuilding a brand and repairing an image are two very common practices in the world of business.  Recognizing a deficiency in your business plan or your staff is often the first step in the process and requires a humble and realistic approach.  If the owner is involved in the rebuilding process, is humbled by his business’s lack of success and makes a commitment to strive for excellence, the business is on its way to a new and improved path.  I was once told by a highly successful health club owner “hire great people, pay them well, and keep them happy. … Continue reading An Impressive All Star Team is at Work at Tony C’s Bar & Grill

The NK Blog Welcomes Wickford Art Festival Sponsor – Providence Coal Fired Pizza

In our continuing series on local restaurant options for the 53rd Annual Wickford Art Festival, The NK Blog welcomes major sponsor Providence Coal Fired Pizza.  With one successful location already established in Providence (385 Westminster St.), Providence Coal Fired Pizza now has a place in North Kingstown.  They are located at the north end of North Kingstown, right next to Kingstown Bowl. Bowling and Pizza, what a team.  In speaking with Judy Salvadore, Wickford Art Festival Director, she mentioned that Providence Coal Fired Pizza was a great local sponsor and to thank Michael Santos for “all your help and support.” … Continue reading The NK Blog Welcomes Wickford Art Festival Sponsor – Providence Coal Fired Pizza

Bravo Wood Fired Pizza – Delicious Food Cooked at a Whopping 900 Degrees

In our continuing series on local restaurant options for the 53rd Annual Wickford Art Festival, I am happy to get to know Bravo Wood Fired Pizza.  I am a huge fan of pizza, as is my family.  I was very interested in the process so I grabbed some information from their website – http://www.bravowoodfiredpizza.com.  I also discovered that they have gluten free options, which is a huge bonus when a member of your friends and family has a gluten intolerance.  Typically, most pizza parlors offer dough that is made with gluten, so having a gluten free solution allows you to enjoy … Continue reading Bravo Wood Fired Pizza – Delicious Food Cooked at a Whopping 900 Degrees

The NK Blog Grants Wicked Fish “Cead Mile Falite”, A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

If you travel for work or with family, in just about any city in the US, you will find an Irish pub.  They are everywhere.  They have the Irish names like “Maguire’s” or “The Black Rose” or, as we once had in North Kingstown simply, “The Irish Pub.”  These Irish pubs feature similar styles in the mill work and bar fixtures and photos and certainly the Irish flag.  They carry all your favorite spirits and help you create a few after a pint or two.  They tend to be a lively joint where friends and family can unwind after a … Continue reading The NK Blog Grants Wicked Fish “Cead Mile Falite”, A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

The Wickford Art Festival is less than a week away.  Saturday July 11th and 12th, Wickford Village will be filled with artists, residents, and tourists enjoying our beautiful village and marveling at the many wondrous art exhibitors.  It has been our pleasure meeting some of the artists, support staff, and Wickford Art Association staff that put this great local event on.  Part of our promotional series was to increase awareness for tourists and local residents about local options for food, ice cream, coffee, and local flavors.  And our first article on local restaurants got such an incredible response, we have … Continue reading Order Up! Roberts Health Centre – A 5 Star Rehab and Nursing Center

One of my first, and frankly most impactful, jobs I had as a teenager was at Lafayette Nursing Home right here in North Kingstown.  I worked part-time in the kitchen, making snacks, tea, sandwiches for the residents.  My mother was a registered nurse there as well as other nursing homes in her impressive nursing career.  Part of my work shift was spent handing out meals, which led me to talking to the residents.  I learned a lot about being patient and being a good listener and that spending a few moments with an elderly person that may be lonely was … Continue reading Roberts Health Centre – A 5 Star Rehab and Nursing Center

Davisville Free Library – A Local Resource for Knowledge since 1917

For most of us, the search for knowledge has been sped up tremendously by the internet.  Facts and information are readily available through tablets, smart phones, computers and can be assessed with ease.  I caution everyone to check the source of the information online before deeming it to be valid, as just about anyone can publish just about anything online.  Prior to the internet (this is for my young readers and their friends – S, G, H, M, & M), knowledge was readily available at your local public library.  In these places of knowledge, you had to do a bit … Continue reading Davisville Free Library – A Local Resource for Knowledge since 1917

Canvasworks+ – It’s Not Just Canvas Bags Anymore

Admittedly, I use landmarks when I ask for or give directions in North Kingstown.  Sometimes, I use landmarks that no longer exist and then have to correct myself with the current landmark.  For example, I still refer to Rite Aid’s spot in Wickford as “Earnshaw’s Drugs” or Centreville Bank’s spot opposite Wilson Park as the “old Post Office.”  Without these landmarks, I am doomed to follow in the footsteps of my ancestors, which is quite frankly I get lost in a paper bag.  One such landmark in Wickford has remained since the 1970s, Canvasworks.  It is located on the left … Continue reading Canvasworks+ – It’s Not Just Canvas Bags Anymore

The North Kingstown Blog Snaps You a Picture of Cindy Wilson Photography

Upon returning from a trip to the Grand Canyon some years back, I was asked by a friend “what was it like and did you take any photos?”  I replied “absolutely breathtaking and no.”  I think selfishly I just wanted to remember the interesting rock shapes, the haunting echoes when I yelled out “Hello”, and the sheer natural beauty of the Grand Canyon and I didn’t feel that any photo I took could capture those emotions.  Also, there were the elements – wind, shadows, blinding sunlight – that were ever changing and tend to cause amateur photographers (like myself) fits. Now, … Continue reading The North Kingstown Blog Snaps You a Picture of Cindy Wilson Photography
