Bonds, Clemens – Put them In The Hall of Fame…Under One Condition

What do Michigan, Syracuse, and Ohio State Universities have in common?  They are all powerhouse NCAA schools with high profile coaches, athletes, and stadiums.  All have won national championships in football, baseball, basketball, just to name a few. And, all of them have had to vacate victories due to NCAA sanctions against them. Most recently, Syracuse University basketball head coach Jim Boeheim will vacate 108 wins due to NCAA sanctions against Syracuse. Boeheim, by the way, is in the Basketball Hall of Fame (elected in 2005) and there are no imminent plans for his removal. This past weekend, Alex Rodriguez … Continue reading Bonds, Clemens – Put them In The Hall of Fame…Under One Condition

Walk Onto the 3rd Hole and Down Memory Lane

Growing up in North Kingstown, I have many childhood memories of people and places.  One such memory was jogged yesterday, as I was approaching the 3rd Hole at Kings Crossing Golf Club, formerly Woodland Greens Golf Club.  In addition to working at Woodland Greens as a teenager, I was an avid player on their 9 hole course while I attended North Kingstown High School in the late 1980’s.  I remember one such day in May, roughly 25 years ago, that involved the 3rd hole, an NK High School Teacher, and a mutual agreement. So, the morning of this particular day, … Continue reading Walk Onto the 3rd Hole and Down Memory Lane

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is about four regular turtles who get mutated into 6 foot tall, talking, pizza loving turtles.  They are trained and managed by Master Splinter. They are like shadows in the night until news reporter for channel 6 April O’Neil (played by Megan Fox) spotted them and took their picture. But when April O’Neil was face to face with the four turtles, she collapsed. Donatello found her phone and wiped her phone’s memory so no one would see the picture.   Shredder is the evil character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He and his evil foot clan have an … Continue reading Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

U.B.E. Upper Body Ergometer – A Great Exercise and Rehabilitation Machine

An Upper Body Ergometer, or U.B.E., is a cardiovascular machine. It uses your upper body in a similar motion as you move your legs in an exercise bike.  A U.B.E. has handles that rotate in a circular motion. The user grabs these handles and rotates them just like your legs would be riding the pedals of an exercise bike.  Some manufacturers even offer adjustable handles as well as handles that have swivel movements – to help reduce wrist strain.  U.B.E. units have adjustable seats – forward and backward – and some manufacturers have seats that can be removed entirely.  This feature … Continue reading U.B.E. A Fitness Revolution at My Beloved North Kingstown Town Beach – Is It Possible?

I was at the North Kingstown Town Beach the other night with my sons. They were swinging on the swings and I stopped them to show them how coordinated I was.  I went to the end of the long swing set, the one that holds four swingers, and climbed up to the top.  My arms are long enough to span the metal braces and I was able to pull myself without breaking any bones.  I said to one of my sons “I still got it.  I used to do this when I was your age.” Then, it hit me. I … Continue reading A Fitness Revolution at My Beloved North Kingstown Town Beach – Is It Possible?

Blogging for Business – A Brief History

A blog is one of the most effective ways of marketing your business without a pushy sales pitch.  Writing a blog is not about discount coupons or the sale of the century.  Rather, blog writing is about why you are a leading expert in your area of business.  Blogs tell the story of your expertise.  By letting a wide range of readers know you know your stuff, you are establishing yourself as a resource in your field. There are search engine optimization (SEO) benefits as well, but we will cover those in another post. Let’s focus on why blog writing is important first. Here … Continue reading Blogging for Business – A Brief History

McCoy Stadium is the Family Friendliest Park of All-Time

In New England, we have some of the most revered stadiums and professional sports teams.  There are websites, fan clubs, team specific bars and restaurants. If you love your New England sports teams like I do, you watch every game as if it were a championship game.  And if you are lucky, you go to see them live at their iconic stadiums and arenas whenever possible.   Countless fans file into Gillette Stadium to see the New England Patriots play. Pack 1 Saunderstown – These Cub Scouts Are Learning Some Great Life Skills and Having Fun in the Process

I am a proud parent of a Cub Scout.  He has been an active member of Pack 1 Sauderstown for a few years now and I have to say it has been an incredible experience for him.  My son has learned life skills, basic emergency skills, how to treat others fairly and with courtesy, fitness skills, just to name a few. He has meetings a few times per month with his pack and looks forward to learning new skills and being with his friends.  I couldn’t be happier about how Boy Scouts of America has helped make my son a … Continue reading Pack 1 Saunderstown – These Cub Scouts Are Learning Some Great Life Skills and Having Fun in the Process

Godzilla – My Take on a Remake

Godzilla is an action and adventure film. Godzilla stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor Johnson.  This version is a remake of a movie classic that was originally released in 1954.  In this modern day version, Godzilla is called upon to face not one but two extremely dangerous and destructive Mutos.  These Mutos are feeding off of nuclear energy wherever they can find it and, in the process, are destroying major cities, roads, and bridges in their path.  Will Godzilla get to them before the Mutos destroy every major US city in their quest for energy? The movie has tons of awesome fight scenes with … Continue reading Godzilla – My Take on a Remake

Beyond the Diagnosis – Art Exhibit Featuring Artists and Their Subjects

Imagine being handed a slip of paper with the math problem: 2+2=? Pretty simple, right? Most people would get the answer correctly.  How about a word problem where two trains are travelling towards each other at different speeds, and the question is where do they meet and who travels further?  Again, given the information, you and possibly a helper can probably figure it out.   Now imagine a math problem so complex that it takes 8 years to complete.  And, in the span of time you and others are attempting to figure out this math problem, a person close to you … Continue reading Beyond the Diagnosis – Art Exhibit Featuring Artists and Their Subjects
