The Baseball Blind Auditions Produce Three More Winners, Three More Shown The Door

After a few commercial breaks and a trip to Winter Wonderland in Williamsburg, I am back this morning with more exciting baseball blind audition matchups. The prize, the ultimate prize these contestants are vying for? Well, it looks something like this…

Okay here are today’s matchups…

  • BA played an impressive 18 Major League Baseball seasons for 6 teams. I remember BA for one team in particular, his second. BA was an All-Star, a Gold Glove winner, and a Silver Slugger award winner. BA’s lifetime batting average is an impressive .291, amassing nearly 2500 hits, 300 home runs. BA played nearly 2,000 games in right field.
  • RB played all 14 seasons with one Major League Baseball team. RB was a Rookie of the Year, an NL MVP, a multi-year All-Star, and a multi-year Silver Slugger award winner. RB collected nearly 2000 hits in his 14 years, hitting an impressive .296 over his career. RB hit over 350 home runs, drove in over 1100 runs, and scored over 1000 runs.

This is great matchup of all-time great outfielders. BA was a consistent fielder and hitter for nearly 20 years in Major League Baseball. RB was a top of the line hitter and slugger for the better part of a decade in between some injury years. This is a great example of why these participants deserve recognition, regardless of whether they move on or not. After looking over their resumes, I am going with RB. RB moves onto the next round.

Okay, let’s get another participant lined up to move on…

  • DP played all 14 seasons with one Major League Baseball team. DP was a Rookie of the Year, an MVP, a World Series Champion. DP was an All-Star, a Gold Glove winner, and a Silver Slugger award winner. His .299 career batting average is impressive. DP collected over 1800 hits, with nearly 400 of those hits being doubles. In the field, DP was a tenacious fielder and a fierce competitor on and off the field.
  • CU played 16 seasons with two Major League Baseball teams. CU is best known for one team in particular, his first one. CU was a multi-year All-Star and Silver Slugger award winner, and a World Series Champion. CU collected nearly 1900 hits, drove in over 1000 RBIs, hit over 250 home runs all while hitting .275 for his career. CU was a tough defensive player and an aggressive base runner.

Another great matchup – this one featuring two of the premier infielders of their generation. DP was a tough SOB who hit lasers all over the place and could track down the toughest baseballs hit to his side of the field. CU’s range was tremendous as well, he played like a shortstop on the right side of the diamond. Both DP and CU could hit, hit for power, and hit in the clutch. Without question, a close matchup. Slight edge goes to DP for his more than generational abilities in the field. DP wins this round and moves on.

Let’s take a quick commercial break sponsored by the Christmas season.

Okay, final matchup of the day…

  • AP played 18 Major League Baseball seasons for 2 clubs. He is best known for his years and contributions to one team, his first one. AP posted over 250 wins, struck out nearly 2500 batters, and had a career ERA (earned run average) of 3.85. AP was a 2 time 20 game winner. AP’s postseason records could fill up a small VFW hall – a member of 5 World Series Championships, winning 19 games in the Postseason, 32 appearances, a consistent piece of a championship team puzzle.
  • RP played 12 Major League Baseball seasons for 3 clubs. RP was a Cy Young Award winner, a 20 game winner, and a World Series Champion. Over his 12 years, RP posted a 4.40 ERA with 150 wins and over 1500 strikeouts.

With all due respect to RP and his fantastic career, AP is the clear winner here. In fact, I am a bit clueless as to why AP has not won this prize already. AP’s stats during the regular and post-seasons are absolutely worthy of this prize. AP is the early favorite, in my opinion, to win it all. AP moves on to the next round.

Okay, quick recap on the head to head matchup winners to date:
