Okay we are back now for more head to head matchups in this blind audition format. If you missed any of the first episode, here are the rules, the premise, and the opening matchup of the blind auditions featuring 27 participants, all vying for a coveted prize. A prize that looks something like this:

Okay, let’s get to today’s matchups:
- MB pitched parts of 17 seasons for 3 Major League Baseball clubs. MB pitched a no-hitter, a perfect game, and won a World Series trophy with one team in particular. And has a statue outside this club’s home stadium. MB had over 200 wins, nearly 2000 K’s, and was a Gold Glover, All-Star, and pitched quicker than any pitch clock could ever register.
- GG pitched parts of 13 seasons for 4 Major League Baseball teams. GG recorded 130 plus wins, nearly 2000 innings, and struck out 200 batters in one season. GG did not win a Cy Young, nor play in a World Series game.
Okay, not too much deliberating going on here. MB is the clear winner of this matchup. MB moves on to the next round.
Next up:
- TH played nearly 20 years in the Major Leagues for 3 clubs. He is best known for the team he began his career with. TH was a generational talent defensively, winning the Gold Glove an incredible 9 years in a row. A respectable .277 lifetime batting average, TH smashed over 350 home runs, while collecting nearly 2500 hits. In Boston Red Sox history, he is famous for not catching a home run ball hit by the Red Sox’s David Ortiz in a playoff game. TH was a five time All-Star and must see TV to watch in the outfield.
- MK played close to 15 seasons with 4 Major League teams. I always remember him for one in particular, the club he came up with. MK was an All-Star, a Gold Glove winner, and a Silver Slugger Award winner. MK collected over 1800 hits, slugged close to 300 home runs, and hit almost 350 doubles in his 15 year career.
Okay, this is another quick decision here. TH is a strong candidate in the field and his matchup vs. MK has TH moving on to the next round.
A quick word from our sponsor, Mother Nature, and we will be back in 60 seconds…

Okay, one more matchup for today and then a short recess for the next participants to arrive. Here is the final matchup for today:
- JR played close to 17 seasons with 3 Major League Baseball clubs. JR is best known for one team in particular, the one he came up with. JR was an athletic baseball player who excelled at defense, stealing bases, turning singles into doubles as a hitter, and turning singles into outs at a fielder. JR was an All-Star, an MVP, a Silver Slugger, and a Gold Glover. JR collected nearly 2500 hits, stole 470 bases, and hit over 230 home runs. JR won a World Series trophy and had a 30HR/30 steal season.
- OV played an astounding 24 seasons with 6 Major League Baseball teams. OV played one position, to my knowledge, about as well as anyone has all-time (in my opinion). OV was an All-Star, 11 time Gold Glove winner, and played in nearly 3000 games. OV collected over 2800 hits, stole over 400 bases, and hit a respectable .272 for his career. OV played on 2 American League Championship teams, both teams lost in the World Series.
This one is a tough matchup, both JR and OV are deserving in their own right. JR did win major awards, played in more All-Star games, and was more of an impact player at the plate than OV. However, OV’s durability to play at an elite level for nearly a quarter of a century should not be dismissed so lightly. In the end, I will pick JR but by the smallest of margins. This was a close matchup indeed. JR moves on to the next round.
Okay, quick recap of the blind audition winners so far:
- AJ
- JR
- TH
- MB
Stay tuned for another round of blind auditions as we close in on Round 2 and the eventual final four matchups to decide who will win the ultimate prize. All for now.
