Checking Out Harry Carey’s Shortstop Restaurant and Sports Bar, Midway Airport

On the way home yesterday from a business trip to Chicago, I found myself at Midway Airport, one of Chicago’s busy airports. After getting into the airport, successfully through a busy line of travelers and security, and inhaling a delicious bacon cheeseburger at Reilly’s Daughter, I was happy to then seek out my gate to wait for my flight to depart. As I was approaching my gate, I saw an awesome mural featuring a Chicago legend, Harry Carey.

The quote is from Harry Carey’s famous 7th inning singing salute to the greatest game of all time – baseball. His “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” is still sung at Wrigley and by some of the most famous Chicagoans and celebrities. Many, many have grabbed the microphone and sung their renditions at Chicago Cubs home games, some to cheers and others to jeers. None have done it better then or since than the legend himself, Harry Carey. Harry Carey was a Cub legend and a sports legend that still has a significant presence in Chicago. And this mural was just the first part of a wonderful discovery at Midway Airport. Feast your eyes on just some of the sports memorabilia that I saw in glass cases that surrounded one end of the restaurant named “Harry Carey’s Shortstop Restaurant and Sports Bar.”

And the sports memorabilia cases at Harry Carey’s Shortstop is also joined by several amazing military salutes.

Having already eaten, coupled with the time of day, plus an imminent flight departure, I did not get to eat or drink at Harry Carey’s. I did however make a few rounds around the glass cases and took a moment or two to check out the amazing sports cards, photographs, and tributes. When my flight departure was announced, I took one last photo of the restaurant and sports bar and headed onto my plane, and headed home. I was so psyched to have experienced all of the great pieces of sports and military memorabilia that this very special restaurant offered. If you are ever at Chicago’s Midway Airport and in Terminal A near Gate 10, head over to Harry Carey’s Shortstop, see the exhibits, grab a drink, maybe some lunch or dinner, and soak in all the amazing moments that helped make Harry Carey the legend that remains as strong as ever today.
