Having lived here now for about 2 years, I am still amazed at the amount of villages, shopping areas, and land that Virginia Beach has. In all honesty, the beach part of Virginia Beach pales in comparison to the wooden areas and tree lined roads and boulevards. Cases in point – Holland Road, Dam Neck Road, and the VB area known as Ocean Lakes. Yesterday afternoon, I had some personal time before sunset to take a short drive to visit the baseball fields of Virginia Beach Little League in the aforementioned Ocean Lakes community. Beautiful ride, took me about 25 minutes to go the roughly 12 to 13 miles to Ocean Lakes Park, home of the VBLL.

I passed by several Ocean Lakes community developments, shopping areas, and the Ocean Lakes network of schools and ended up on Firefall Drive, which eventually dead ended at the entrance to Ocean Lakes Park and the baseball/softball complex of Virginia Beach Little League. The parking lot was empty so I parked near one of the larger baseball fields, the one that book ends the corner of the complex. I took a quick glance around the complex, then set out to learn more about the fields and teams that call Ocean Lakes Park home.

As I suspected, many of the fields and gates were locked, so I explored the perimeters of a number of the fields. There were Tee Ball level fields, minors or developmental fields (46/60), and several “big” fields where middle school or high school level players probably played (60/90). There were softball fields, concession stands, press boxes, and plenty of bleacher seating locations. I walked around about 6 or 7 fields in total. In the background of the baseball and softball fields, there was a playground area that abutted a local neighborhood.

The weather was absolutely amazing. High 70s, lots of sunshine, light winds, more summerlike than fall conditions for sure. After a few photos and a nice 30 minute walkaround, I took some notes to look up some of the teams when I returned home. There were a number of banners showcasing teams and sponsor and I was curious as to what their connection to VBLL was.
Here is what I found out:
- Here is the official website of the Virginia Beach Little League
- From the website, Pups Baseball is a travel team for 8U – 12U players and their families. Here is their link – Pups Baseball
- Also from the website, Virginia Beach Defenders is a travel team for 13U, 14U players and their families. Here is their link – VB Defenders
- The league has been in existence since 1955
- Here are the fields from a Google Maps view on the VBLL website:

It was a fun visit to Ocean Lakes Park, home of the Virginia Beach Little League. Established in 1955, wow, that is 70 years by my math. Very impressive. The fields and complex looked amazing, even in the offseason/shortened season of Fall Baseball. I plan on reaching out to the VBLL leadership for more information on the fields, the players, the league, and its history. 70 years of VBLL, there is bound to be a story or two there! Overall, it was a fantastic afternoon visiting the Virginia Beach Little League in Ocean Lakes, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.
