So this week has produced some ridiculous temperatures, record setting in some areas. Here in Hampton Roads, it has averaged 90 plus degrees on the thermostat and the feel like temps are in the triple digits. Safety first has been the theme for many leagues, as games have been postponed to a later date to accommodate players, umps, fans, and pets who planned on attending games in the heat. Still, it has been another scorcher of a week in the summer collegiate and amateur baseball league (SCABL) season. Here are some stories I am following this morning:
Old North State League is one of those leagues with temperatures pushing 100 to 114 feel like conditions. Here are the scores from last night’s game action:
And speaking of the Old North State League, they just announced their 2025 All-Star game participants, as well as their 2025 Home Run Derby participants. Congrats to all who made the squad(s) and good luck in the game this Saturday at Jack Amyette Park, Jacksonville, NC.
According to my son up in Rhode Island, the temperatures in New England are record setting hot, hot, hot. Futures Collegiate League action from Tuesday and Wednesday below. Vermont Lake Monsters and New Britain Bees both braving the heat and winning both nights.
Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League back after some extreme heat in the Hamptons. You are in the Hamptons in this kind of heat, most likely you are in/at a pool or in the Atlantic Ocean. Here are the games for last night’s HCBL action:
Cape Cod Baseball League plays in the heat and humidity all summer. From my experience, a lot of the parks that the CCBL play at have tons of shade for fans to escape the heat. The play on the field is mega-hot with tons of MLB draft potential players playing every night for every team. YD Red Sox, the ASG host team, edges out Harwich Mariners last night.
Coastal Plain League rolls on despite record temperatures here in North Carolina and Virginia this week. Here are some scores and highlights from this week’s play in the CPL.
While the heat and humidity definitely affects the players on the field, operations and media interns still have a job to do. Here is the Madison Mallards sideline reporter with Mallards player Carson Hanson. Getting the goods on the season and Chipotle!
And on the Cape, media interns are working the sidelines and getting the scoop on the Cape Cod Baseball League players, fields, coaches, and amazing atmosphere. Shout out to all the interns working hard this summer!
If you have ever attended an Ocean State Waves (NECBL) game, you will notice that a lot of the host families park themselves in the right field grassy area. Not surprising that Waves slugger Justin Hackett saluted the crowd out there. Host families make a lot of noise every game!!! They are amazing fans.
And finally, I can’t forget my favorite IG page this summer, the NABA Richmond page. Here are some highlights from this week’s game previews. Again, this is much see viewing daily for me!!!
Stay hydrated, find shade whenever possible, reduce your exposure to the sun as much as possible, and above all be safe out there on the fields of summer collegiate and amateur baseball leagues.
