Two words describe the Dwight Gooden Hall of Fame Pitch started by Kansas City journalist and podcaster Joe Dimino – Positive energy. Dimino and I linked up about a month or so ago because of National Baseball Hall of Fame worthy Dwight “Doc” Gooden. And due to the fact that both Joe and I strongly believe he belongs in Cooperstown’s National Baseball Hall of Fame. Gooden was a childhood idol of Dimino. He was a living legend for me as a young hurler to pattern my curveball after. For Joe and myself, we decided to make a true pitch to the world and state, without question, that Dwight Gooden should be inducted into Cooperstown’s National Baseball Hall of Fame. Here are some incredible updates that have happened in just about one month’s time:
After reading an article of mine on why Dwight Gooden should be in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Joe Dimino reached out to me and asked me to chat about my take on the great Doc Gooden. We spoke via Joe’s Famous Interviews Podcast about Doc, baseball, Doc’s peers, NYC, and so much more. It was the start of a great friendship and mutual respect for #16, Dwight Gooden. Here is the podcast in full:
After speaking with several members of the media, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, even the New York Mets media department, Joe and I still found some that didn’t want to sign off on Doc’s rightful place in Cooperstown. Throughout the journey, I mentioned to Joe, there will be naysayers, critics, and those who do not share your high esteem for Doc Gooden. No problem at all, as long as we believe, that is all that matters in this journey to get him inducted into Cooperstown. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it differs from ours.
So, along the journey, Joe has met, phoned, texted, and ultimately communicated with several close allies to Doc Gooden. Friends, broadcasters, and advocates for Doc have come forward to voice their devotion to helping Doc out in any way possible. For example, New York based Psychologist Robert Goldman, who came onto Joe’s Famous Interview Podcast to share a ton of knowledge on Dwight Gooden past and present. Have a listen:
So how does one get into Cooperstown’s Baseball Hall of Fame after their years of eligibility have expired? One way, according to the public relations department at the National Baseball Hall of Fame is through committees. Committees such as the Historical Overview Committee, which convenes once a year to choose worth candidates whose eligibility has expired. Committees that will vote on a number of players who they think are worthy of induction. So, that is what Joe and I did. We crafted a letter to the Historical Overview Committee and sent it off earlier this month. Our hope is they receive the letter, read it knowing it was done with the best intentions, and include Dwight Gooden in their roster of potential nominees to be inducted into Cooperstown’s National Baseball Hall of Fame.
In all of this month or so process, Dwight Gooden and his thoughts have been on the minds of Joe and I. Through Joe’s contacts with the NY Mets and other media, Joe was lucky enough to receive the ultimate news – Dwight Gooden wants to chat with you. How (freaking) cool is that? One month in and we have an interview with the man himself. Who better to make his case for the National Baseball Hall of Fame than the man who toed the rubber at Shea, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium, All-Star games, World Series games, and captivated a nation with his fastball, curveball, and charisma. We end this article with a ton of positive energy from none other than Dwight Gooden himself, interviewed on the Famous Interview Podcast just this week.
Wow, this journey has been awesome and it is just starting to gain a ton of positive momentum. Care to join our journey? What does/did Dwight Gooden mean to you? Send me your thoughts, questions, and good wishes and let’s keep the positive energy flowing. Let’s get Dwight Gooden inducted into Cooperstown’s National Baseball Hall of Fame.
