A Wintry Walk Around Williamsburg, William & Mary’s Plumeri Baseball Park

Saturday afternoon, after being mostly sick for 2 straight weeks, Rachel and I ventured out of Virginia Beach for a day-cation adventure in nearby Williamsburg, VA. Williamsburg is a short drive, about 45 minutes or so, from our home in VA Beach. Our agenda was pretty much an open book – stop in at Colonial Williamsburg, maybe check out Christmas Town at Busch Gardens, perhaps a pop in to the outlets, and (fingers crossed) a tiny tangent over to William & Mary to check out their baseball field. The weather was very cooperative, yet chilly. Wind was whipping around Williamsburg but that didn’t deter us from exploring several items on our day-cation checklist. Overall, it was a really fun day and we beat the snowstorm (happening as I type) which was scheduled for early this week.

As we were warming up in an upstairs bookstore, I checked my maps to see where in fact the William and Mary University baseball field was. The W & M campus was located right near Colonial Williamsburg, so I just assumed the baseball field would be within walking distance. My search on the map showed the baseball field, Plumeri Park, to be about 2 miles outside the tourist area, so we would have to drive over. So, after a few more shop pop-ins, Rachel and I took the short drive from Colonial Williamsburg over to the sports complex with baseball, softball fields and more just off Ironbound Rd.

I parked in the lot behind the outfield fences, kept the car running, and headed over to Plumeri to see if I could catch some views of the field and stadium. With William & Mary students still on holiday break, I sort of predicted that the stadium would be locked up. And I was right. There were some views of the field from various angles and I managed to walk around the perimeter of the locked park to get some photos.

William & Mary Baseball, aka The Tribe, play in the Coastal Athletic Association or CAA. The baseball team’s 2025 schedule includes CAA conference games as well as matchups vs powerhouse baseball programs like Boston College, University of Virginia, and Duke. After reviewing their 2025 schedule, I have at least 3 games circled on their calendar that I plan on attending, schedule permitting. Can you guess which 3?

Finishing up on the field visit, I made my way around the front gate area, did not see any open gates, and proceeded to follow the fencing around the outfield heading back to my car. There was a ladder positioned about center field or so and I climbed up and grabbed one more photo of the field before I exited the parking lot.

Campus life, sports, etc. will be returning to the streets of Williamsburg in a few weeks, aligned with the return of students to local William & Mary University. Personally, I love the Tribe color scheme – Green and Gold – reminds me of Rhode Island’s Bishop Hendricken High School’s school colors. Overall, it was a fun walk around Plumeri Park, despite it being locked up I managed to get some photos of the baseball happenings. In about 6 weeks time, I hope to be in the stands cheering on the University of Rhode Island Rams as they take on the William & Mary Tribe at Plumeri. Should be an interesting start to my 2025 baseball experience calendar of games. A pretty awesome first baseball park experience of 2025 at Williamsburg’s Plumeri Baseball Park!
