Shocking Trade Rumor Surfaces Involving Chicago, Boston Baseball Teams

An unconfirmed source at yesterday’s Norfolk Tides game, seated in section 107, row L, seat 14 told me in confidence of a shocking trade proposal involving two historic baseball franchises. I am working the phones, text, IM, X, Y, Z, ABC, 123 to get verification on this one because it will potentially and hypothetically send shockwaves through professional baseball as we know it. Strike that, professional sports. Strike that, humankind!!!

The trade involves the most valuable asset each club – the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox – own. Their names. Yes, the trade is simply this, but as complicated as that. The Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox have agreed secretly and without prior consultation with analysts or lawyers, to exchange names. The newly formed Chicago Red Sox will continue to play in the National League Central and will look to corner the Sox market in the Windy City. Cincinnati has the Reds, well, now we one up you and we are now the Red Sox. What’s more red than a red bird/Cardinal, I’ll tell you. A Red Sox.

Over in the American League East, a new Bruin will emerge – The Boston Cubs. Joining their fellow Boston animals, the Boston Bruins, The Cubbies of Beantown will scare the heck out of birds like Blue Jays and Orioles. Who are you taking in a fight? A Yankee Doodle ball player or a Bear Cub looking to smash home runs and scale walls to rob home runs? My money is on the Cub. And (sting) Rays belong in the ocean, not on a ball field with Cubs. Domination and takeover plans for the AL East Crown, immediate.

I have so many Boston hats, jerseys, pennants, souvenir helmets, and literally 50 plus years of fan loyalty to Boston sports, so what’s in a name? G file, you are going to be full if this story breaks true. Yes I’ll root, root, root for the Cubbies if they move to Boston. And as far as the Red Sox, well you and I had a good run but it’s over. Don’t call or text or write me, ever again. Boston Cubs, you’re my new favorite team!!!

Just kidding, love you Boston Red Sox, forever and always.

Happy April Fool’s Day.

  1. Love that smile! I’d rather see your pooch in the booth rather than most athletes. That would be pretty cool to see Bob Costas sitting next to his dog wearing sun glasses and asking his opinion on a play. Especially during “the Dog Days of Summer!”
