On a scorching hot 100° August afternoon, with the sun was as angry as it was bright, two unlikely participants met for a 30 yard race. Lenny the Snowman, a distant relative of the famed Frosty family of SnowPeople, faced off against Stick of Butterman, who accepted Lenny’s challenge despite the backlash from local Chef Antonio from River’s Café. Lenny was allowed to use a modified Segway scooter, top speed 10.4 mph, outfitted by two titanium L-brackets for legs, of which Lenny plopped his lower half onto to appear like he was standing upright. Stick allowed the modification only if he, Stick of Butterman, could pick the race location – Evans Fieldhouse, where nearly full grown arborvitae lined the track providing just the right amount of shade for a runner in Lane 1. The stage was set, the racers were ready with sweat pouring off them from the second they arrive, the conditions were hot and uncomfortable for two unlikely racers on a hot and sunny August afternoon.
